Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Gomez (ranked 2269 p4p, 3839 weight class) and Mark O Madsen (ranked 296 p4p, 463 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
O Madsen fails with the takedown.
O Madsen takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Gomez throws a sloppy head kick and O Madsen moves out of range easily.

O Madsen tries to close the distance and clinch but Gomez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

O Madsen shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. O Madsen showed some decent athleticism there.

Gomez has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. O Madsen is working away from the top position though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

O Madsen wants to pass the guard but Gomez is defending well.
O Madsen is trying to control. Gomez wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

O Madsen is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw O Madsen working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
O Madsen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gomez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

O Madsen is fighting to break Gomez's control of his arms but Gomez is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Gomez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. O Madsen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

O Madsen got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gomez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, O Madsen has managed to get both his arms back between Gomez's legs - danger averted.

Gomez feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits O Madsens jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

It looks like Mark O Madsen has been cut.
A bone on bone clash there as O Madsen blocks the leg kick.
Gomez pivots, looking for a leg kick but O Madsen is out of range and Gomez settles back down.
O Madsen blocks a head kick by Gomez.
O Madsen thuds his right hand into Gomez's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

O Madsen darts in and clinches Gomez up against the cage.
O Madsen keeps control of Gomez as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

O Madsen closes the distance and clinches up with Gomez, looking for a takedown. O Madsen pushes Gomez against the cage but Gomez circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
O Madsen just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromGomez.

Look low, kick high! Gomez uses the oldest trick in the book to send O Madsen tumbling to the canvas, in a truly brutal knockout! Gomez is absolutely delighted - when O Madsen wakes up, I doubt he'll be quite so happy!
