PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mike McCaw (ranked 4864 p4p, 4513 weight class) and Monte Chu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mike McCaw!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Monte Chu!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, John Mangel and Francis DeMontford.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCaw fails to land with a series of punches.
Chu looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
McCaw stuffs the takedown.
McCaw seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Chu misses with a takedown attempt - McCaw sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Chu throws a sloppy head kick and McCaw moves out of range easily.
McCaw looks to land a body kick but Chu moved away.
McCaw fails with a takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McCaw pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Chu shoots in and drives through. McCaw sprawls well.
Mike McCaw has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Monte Chu.
McCaw is trying hard to land a takedown here. Chu sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

McCaw misses with a body shot.
McCaw tries to score a power double leg takedown but Chu sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten McCaw somewhat.

McCaw tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Chu is able to avoid easily.
Chu tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
McCaw throws a one two combo.
Chu slaps away a takedown attempt from McCaw, before circling back to the center of the mat.
McCaw misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Chu looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Chu fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with McCaw, pushing him back against the cage.

Chu escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Horrible takedown attempt by Chu or perhaps it was just good defense by McCaw, which made it look bad.

McCaw closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Chu quickly recovers to half guard.

Chu manages to escape and get back to his feet!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
McCaw is looking to clinch but Chu is avoiding it.
McCaw tries to clinch up but Chu circles away and keeps his distance.
Chu looks to land a combination but McCaw avoids it well.
McCaw moves out of range of the body kick.
McCaw fails to land with a series of punches.

and Chu counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
McCaw blocking the ground and pound attempt from Chu.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McCaw is breathing heavily.

Chu decides to return to a standing position.
Chu misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
McCaw uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Chu.
McCaw misses with a head kick.
No joy there for Chu, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
McCaw is looking to clinch but Chu is avoiding it.
A right-left combo lands from McCaw.
McCaw changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Chu tries to avoid it but McCaw manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Chu to the ground. Chu escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Chu dives in and grabs McCaw's left leg, looking for a takedown. McCaw pushes down on Chu's head and hops out.
Chu fails with a takedown attempt.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

McCaw gets the takedown into side control.

Chu throws McCaw to one side and escapes!
Chu avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
McCaw fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Chu tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Monte Chu dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Chu.
Mike McCaw is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Chu shoots in but no luck this time.
McCaw throwing a counter right hand but Chu manages to avoid it.
McCaw shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Chu sprawls well. Chu wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. McCaw gets slowly back to his feet.
McCaw dives in for a single leg takedown but Chu sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Chu breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Chu tries to counter by closing the distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike McCaw. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Chu seems keen to control McCaw's posture.
Monte Chu has got the better of the ground game so far.
Chu is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Chu wants to work for an arm triangle but McCaw is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Chu not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Chu is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Chu passes to side control.
Chu in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Chu gets to mount! McCaw was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

McCaw manages to work a leg through to get back to half guard here. Good work there by McCaw, under a barage of strikes from Chu.
Chu has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Chu looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
McCaw is trying to control but can't.

Chu stands up and beckons McCaw to join him on the feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
McCaw tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Chu rushes McCaw and presses him up against the cage.

Chu escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Chu throws a head kick that misses.
Chu misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Chu changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. McCaw tries to avoid it but Chu manages to keep hold of a leg and drag McCaw to the ground. McCaw escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Chu breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Chu has closed the distance and engaged McCaw in a clinch.

Chu decides to pull guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Monte Chu showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Chu takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

McCaw throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Chu's waist but Chu gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McCaw off to one side.

Chu changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
A combination from McCaw does no damage.

McCaw shoots for a takedown but Chu saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
McCaw fails with the takedown.

Chu changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. McCaw looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
McCaw wants to get back to his feet but Chu is dominant here and he's now got McCaw's back!

McCaw is covering up but some of the strikes from Chu are getting through and doing damage.

McCaw knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Chu on the ground.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Chu controlling the positon.

And that's the end of the fight!
Monte Chu comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Chu has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
