PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dollar Hero (ranked 213 p4p, 93 weight class) and Kagekatsu Uesugi (ranked 27 p4p, 14 weight class). Hero comes to the cage accompanied by For Heavy Metal we will die!. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 15 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dollar Hero! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 30 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kagekatsu Uesugi! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Percy O'Donnell and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hero takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Uesugi on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Hero defending well as Uesugi loads up on a big left hand. Hero half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Uesugi looks to land a left hand but Hero moved out of range nicely. Uesugi misses with a right hand and Hero counters with a left to the body. Uesugi thuds his right hand into Hero's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Hero keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

and Hero counters with a lovely straight right hand! Uesugi throws a looping overhand right but Hero ducks down to avoid it. Uesugi cracks Hero with an open hand slap. Uesugi misses with a straight right. Hero throws a big counter combination but Uesugi scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Uesugi scores with a nice strike. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Uesugi lands with a hook. Hero tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Hero lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. A punch combination from Hero misses. Hero closes this distance looking for a takedown but Uesugi circles away. Hero bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Kagekatsu Uesugi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hero staying out of range there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hero defending well as Uesugi loads up on a big left hand. Hero looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Uesugi is fending him off so far but Hero persists. Nope, Uesugi circles away and we're back to standing. A nice side step and Uesugi releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home. Uesugi has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Uesugi jabbing away but nothing is landing. Hero uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Uesugi.

Uesugi displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Hero throws out the jab. It seemed like Uesugi was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Hero fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Good standup being displayed there by Uesugi as he connects with a hook. Uesugi lands with a cross. Uesugi is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range. Hero takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Hero looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Uesugi! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Hero working away. Hero fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Uesugi manages to get back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Uesugi won't allow Hero to pass to mount. Uesugi looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Hero trying to control from half guard but Uesugi is working away. Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground! Uesugi trying to control but Hero postures up.
Hero thows a huge punch but Uesugi dodges it nicely.
Uesugi is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hero pulls his head out easily. Uesugi wants to get back to full guard. Hero seems to be working for a kimura but Uesugi defends the submission attempt. Hero lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hero is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hero tries to pass to full mount but Uesugi defends it. Uesugi wants to get back to full guard. Uesugi works his way to full guard. Good work. Hero postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Uesugi has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hero can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Uesugi looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Uesugi has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hero can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Uesugi throws his legs up looking for a submission but Hero uses it to pass to side control.

Uesugi is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Hero is one step ahead and moves to full mount! Hero with shots to the head and body - Uesugi looks very uncomfortable down there. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Kagekatsu Uesugi will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Uesugi throws a shot from downtown. Hero moves away and avoids it. Hero gets a takedown into half guard. Uesugi has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Hero. Oh but Uesugi has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Hero goes limp - he's gone! Uesugi jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
