This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the bantamweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Sydney, with a TWGC record of 4 wins and 3 losses; Eon Yaj! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 9 wins and 15 losses; Thad Thayer! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Percy O'Donnell and Frank Antenori.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Yaj closes the distance and clinches. Yaj is working on a single leg takedown against the ropes. Thayer can't fight it off and eventually Yaj manages to take the fight to the floor. Thayer looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Yaj (2) vs (0) Thayer Thayer can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Yaj controls the pace. Yaj forces his way into half guard. Thayer is pressing down on Yaj's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Yaj slips nicely into half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Yaj performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Thayer wants to control but Yaj is keeping busy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Yaj with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Thayer wants to control but Yaj is keeping busy and won't allow it. Yaj is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Thayer tries to roll over but Yaj keeps him under control. Yaj has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage. Yaj is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
