Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rebel Smith (ranked 2576 p4p, 2434 weight class) and Sammy Volkenhause (ranked 286 p4p, 268 weight class). Volkenhause has chosen Magic Carpet Ride by Steppenwolf as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Volkenhause tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Smith swivels and escapes.
Volkenhause slips under a jab.
Smith throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Smith throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Volkenhause has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Smith pounces like a tiger and cracks Volkenhause with a vicious hook! Volkenhause is down but not out! Smith follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!
