Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Start (ranked 6908 p4p, 6706 weight class) and Levi Valli (ranked 607 p4p, 601 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matthew Start! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Levi Valli! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Frank Dennis and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Valli tries to clinch but fails miserably and Start counters with a takedown into side control. Valli is trying to control Start's posture but Start avoids it. Valli is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Valli misses with an elbow from the bottom. Start working away. Valli gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Start is looking for a kimura here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Start looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Start with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Valli slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Valli trying to control the position.
Start slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Start's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Start seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Valli for as long as he can get away with.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Start works a leg free and moves into half guard. Valli is trying to control but can't.
Start is trying to control the action in half guard but Valli is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Valli gets back to full guard.
Start knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Valli on the ground. Valli manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Start manages to get himself to full guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Valli trying to control but Start is working from the bottom. Valli drops back looking for a leg! Start is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Start manages to kick Valli off! Valli jumps back into Start's guard. Start controls Valli momentarily but Valli frees himself.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Valli won't allow Start to sweep him here. Start working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Valli. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Start holds on and takes a little breather. Valli trying to control but Start is working from the bottom.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Valli looks to land a left hand but Start moved out of range nicely. Valli lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Valli lands a nice looking body kick. Start really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Valli pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Start was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit. Start throws a body punch but Valli moves out of range. Valli misses with a body kick. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Start throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Valli steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Start. Valli tries to clinch up but Start circles away and keeps his distance. Donk. Start catches Valli right on the button with a cross. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Matthew Start dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Valli avoids a kick to the body.
Valli wants to counter with a clinch but Start pushes him away. Start keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Valli. Start fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Valli misses with a kick to the body.

It appears Start was looking to counter with a kick there. An inside leg kick from Valli misses. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Start throws out a loose jab but Valli uses good head movement to avoid it. Valli is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch. Valli tries to clinch but Start moves out of range. Valli throws a head kick that half lands.
That's one minute gone in the round. Valli connects with a solid leg kick. Start misses with a wild body shot. Valli throws a lazy head kick and Start counters with a nice double leg into guard. Start slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Start avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Start is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Start has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Start advances to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Start passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Valli! Valli tries to get back to half guard but can't. Valli is still trying to improve position. Start wants to control but Valli has made it back to half guard. Nice work. Valli is looking to control Start's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Valli avoid being mounted? Start sitting and controlling from the half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Valli regains full guard. Nicely done. Start will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Valli looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Valli controls Start momentarily but Start frees himself. Valli throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Start advances position into side control! The referee asks Start politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Start prefers to stall for the moment though. Valli is trying to improve his position. Valli being controlled for a moment. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Valli sneaks back into half guard. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Matthew Start will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round! Start blocks a head kick by Valli.

Start fires out a quick counter leg kick but Valli just manages to avoid it. Valli shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Start cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Start throws a series of punches but Valli avoids them all with ease. Valli connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Valli misses with a takedown attempt - Start sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Start looks to land a body kick but Valli moved away.
That's one minute gone in the round. A looping hook to the body misses from Start. Valli does a little dance to reset his feet. Start rushes Valli and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Start turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Start is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Valli is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Start wants to lay and pray for a moment but Valli keeps working. Valli is looking for a sweep. Start scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. That's two minutes gone in the round. Valli is looking to reverse the position. Start looks up at the clock and then as Valli takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Start smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Start wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Valli, who protects the arm well. Valli is letting Start control him for a moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Start trying to control the position but Valli is working away. Valli tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Start wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Valli struggling a bit here. Start remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Start working the ground and pound. Matthew Start is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Start taking a breather here. Valli trying to control but Start flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back! Start really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Valli. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Levi Valli has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Start is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
And that's the end of the fight! Matthew Start showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Start, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
