PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Spaced Soza (ranked 5100 p4p, 6804 weight class) and Dave Kool (ranked 495 p4p, 601 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Soza might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Bitch,don't kill my vibe. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Spaced Soza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dave Kool!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Vladimir Khabensky and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Soza shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Kool decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Soza's guard.
Kool with a flurry of punches that miss.
Kool trying to control but Soza is working from the bottom.
Soza trying to keep a closed guard but Kool is proving a slippery customer.
Soza can't keep his opponent in guard - Kool advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Soza really is a fat lump.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Soza is staying active underneath Kool, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Soza keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Kool looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Kool is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Soza doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kool.
Kool working over Soza with some ground and pound. Soza looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Kool lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Kool looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Soza is trying to control but can't.
Kool thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Soza's head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Kool is looking for a kimura here.
Kool passes to full mount!

Kool wants to finish this one by submission but Soza is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Kool.
Kool sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Kool controlling from mount.
Soza is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kool lands a big elbow.
Kool avoids the attempt from Soza to control.

Kool swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Soza is now in Kool's guard. A big mistake from Kool there, giving up the dominant position!

Kool is trying to keep Soza in close.

Soza postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Kool is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Soza, into his guard.

Kool stopping the sweep attempt from Soza.
Kool forces his way into half guard.

Kool is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Soza doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kool.

Kool seems to be working for a kimura but Soza defends the submission attempt.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Dave Kool dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.


Kool shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Soza is in trouble now - Kool has advanced to mount!
Kool throwing strikes here but Soza is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kool wants to stand but Soza is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
Kool tries to get up but Soza was controlling his body and he's reversed into guard.
Kool wants to sweep here but Soza controlling him for the moment.
Soza wants to control from the top but Kool keeps moving.

Soza slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Soza is looking to take a break and control but Kool is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Kool tries to bench press Soza off him but Soza keeps the position.
Kool wants to control but Soza postures up.
Kool manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Kool tries to pass the half guard into mount. Soza knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Kool is looking for a kimura here.
Kool controlling the action here.

Kool is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Kool thows a huge punch but Soza dodges it nicely.

Soza preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Soza has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kool is working away from the top position though.
Kool throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Kool is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Soza doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kool.
Kool wants to stand but Soza has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Soza kicks off Kool and gets to his feet.

Kool gets the takedown into side control.

Kool looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Soza is not content to let Kool control the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Dave Kool showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Kool slaps away a takedown attempt from Soza, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Kool changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Kool closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Soza being controlled against the cage.
Kool drops down looking for an ankle pick but Soza pulls his leg out and moves away.

Kool is trying to control the action in half guard but Soza is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Soza is defending against the submission attempts here by Kool.

Soza is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Kool pulls his head out easily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Soza desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Kool not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Kool missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Kool is looking for a kimura but Soza is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kool to get the leverage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Soza wants to get back to full guard.
Kool stalling.
Kool tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Dave Kool is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Kool stalling.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Soza with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Kool to score with a decent uppercut.

Soza forces Kool back against the cage and clinches.

Soza breaks from the clinch.
Soza tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Soza moves in looking to clinch but Kool pushes him off.
Kool is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Soza.

Kool drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Kool in side control, just content to control the action for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kool is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Soza is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Kool controls the position from side control.
Spaced Soza has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
Dave Kool comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Kool winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Spaced Soza was interviewed post fight and said 'My opponent just was a little bit better and i have to respect their skill set. What know I have to do is go back in the gym and just focus and train harder so next time I can dominant in my match.'.
