PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Clyde Waters (ranked 5371 p4p, 4621 weight class) and Johnny Bravo (ranked 559 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Clyde Waters!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Johnny Bravo!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Anthony Taglia and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Waters is looking to clinch but Bravo is avoiding it.
Bravo misses with the combination.
Waters appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Nice sprawl there from Bravo as Waters shoots in.

Bravo shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Bravo was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Bravo tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Bravo is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Waters is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bravo decides to take the fight back to the feet.

The fighters circling - Bravo throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Bravo closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Waters to the mat! Waters manages to get full guard.
Waters pulls Bravo in close to prevent any damage.

Bravo wanted to stand there but Waters had control of the position.
Bravo trying to control the position from guard on top but Waters is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Bravo wants to get up but he can't break Waters's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Waters wants to control the position but Bravo says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Bravo working over Waters with some ground and pound. Waters looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Bravo tries to pass the half guard into mount. Waters knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Bravo is working for a submission of some sort.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Bravo wants to stand and escape but instead Waters has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Waters would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Bravo doesn't manage to clinch there - Waters circles away.
Waters drops down looking for a counter takedown but Bravo sprawls and moves away.

Waters shoots in looking for a takedown. Bravo tries to sprawl out of it but Waters keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Bravo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bravo throws a low kick but Waters moves out of range easily.

Bravo pushes Waters up against the cage in a clinch.

Bravo ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Bravo no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Bravo pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Waters is looking to clinch but Bravo is avoiding it.
And Bravo tries to counter it with a takedown but Waters pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Bravo stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Bravo wants it to stay on the feet.

Waters shoots in for a takedown but Bravo shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Bravo shoots in looking for a takedown but Waters manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Bravo's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Horrible takedown attempt by Waters or perhaps it was just good defense by Bravo, which made it look bad.
Bravo was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
Waters shoots in for a double leg but Bravo sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Despite the aggression on Bravo's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Waters looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bravo is fending him off so far but Waters persists. Nope, Bravo circles away and we're back to standing.
Bravo wants to counter with a clinch but Waters pushes him away.

Bravo clinches up against the cage.

Bravo tries to work over Waters's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Waters pushes Bravo back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Waters is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Bravo pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Waters takes a knee to the side of the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Waters tries to land knees in the clinch but Bravo avoids the damage to the body.

Bravo is staying active underneath Waters, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Bravo tries to roll over but Waters keeps him under control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Waters tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Bravo.
Bravo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Waters. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Bravo wants to control but Waters is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Waters is looking to advance position but Bravo won't allow it.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Bravo is refusing to be controlled, as Waters sits in half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Waters looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Bravo feints the counter takedown.
Waters tries to close the distance and clinch up but Bravo swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Bravo takes the fight into the clinch.
Bravo jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Waters walks away with a smile on his face. Bravo gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Waters tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Bravo swivels and escapes.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Waters circles away from the clinch attempt.

Bravo shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Johnny Bravo will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!

Bravo shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Waters leaves Bravo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Waters prevents the takedown attempt.
Clyde Waters has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johnny Bravo.
Bravo tries to pull guard but Waters holds him up against the cage and eventually Bravo drops back down to his feet.
A frustrated look appears on Waters's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Bravo tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Waters has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Bravo is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Bravo misses with a short punch on the inside.
Bravo wants a takedown but no success here.

Waters has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Bravo uses from the top position.
Waters is pulling down on Bravo's head. It's preventing any offense from Bravo, at least for the moment.

Waters working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bravo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bravo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Bravo got a little sloppy there for a moment and Waters has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bravo has managed to get both his arms back between Waters's legs - danger averted.
Waters is trying to keep Bravo in close.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Bravo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Waters swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Bravo swats away the attempt to clinch by Waters.

And that's the end of the fight!
Clyde Waters showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Bravo has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
