PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jim Lahey (ranked 5648 p4p, 3316 weight class) and Kili Disson (ranked 429 p4p, 310 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jim Lahey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kili Disson!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Disson throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Lahey was covering up waiting for the punch and Disson finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Disson looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Disson is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Disson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Disson wants to control from the top but Lahey keeps moving.
Disson looking to sit in guard and control but Lahey gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Disson is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Disson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Lahey defends well.

Disson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Lahey gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Disson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Lahey got a little sloppy there for a moment and Disson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Lahey has managed to get both his arms back between Disson's legs - danger averted.
Lahey really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Disson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Lahey controls the pace.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lahey wants to pass the guard but Disson is keeping the position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Disson looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Lahey has picked Disson up and slammed him! Disson can't keep hold of the triangle and Lahey manages to pass to side control!
Disson can't do much from the bottom here.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Disson manages to work his way to half guard, despite Lahey's best efforts.
Lahey wants to stand but Disson has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Disson shoots in looking for a takedown but Lahey manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Disson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Lahey looks to land a right hand but Disson moved out of range.
Disson shoots in for a takedown but Lahey shows good takedown defense.
Lahey ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Disson moves away.

Lahey gets caught flat footed, as Disson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Lahey wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Disson manages to pass to side control.


Disson is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Lahey has managed to free his arm - good work.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jim Lahey will probably get the nod.
That's time! Lahey's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Disson tries to clinch there but Lahey circles away.
Disson moves out of range of the strikes.
Lahey lands with a straight right. Disson didn't see that one coming.

Disson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Disson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Disson in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Disson goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Lahey rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Disson's guard! Nice work there by Lahey!

Disson looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Lahey will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Disson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Disson is looking to sweep but instead, Lahey has passed into half guard.
Disson is trying to maintain the position but Lahey is very close to passing his half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Disson tries to get to full guard but Lahey has control of the leg.
Disson is trying is best to control the position here.
Disson wants to improve his position but Lahey is controlling well.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Disson can do anything to dispel that myth.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Disson tries to get to full guard but Lahey has control of the leg.
Lahey wants to pass to mount but Disson is defending the position.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
Lahey controlling the pace.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Disson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Lahey slaps away a takedown attempt from Disson, before circling back to the center of the mat.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Lahey stuffs the takedown attempt from Disson. Disson gets slowly back to his feet.

Disson gets the takedown into side control.

Disson is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Lahey is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Disson swings around for an armbar but Lahey sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Disson's guard.
Disson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Disson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Lahey swivels and escapes.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Disson moves in looking to clinch but Lahey pushes him off.
Disson doesn't manage to clinch there - Lahey circles away.

Disson gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Disson is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Lahey is defending well.
Disson has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Lahey is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Jim Lahey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kili Disson.

Disson jumps guard and drags Lahey to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Disson has his foot on Lahey's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Lahey works his way back into a safe position though.

Disson is looking for a sweep. Lahey is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Disson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Lahey is working away from the top position though.
Disson might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Lahey haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A decent looking cross lands there for Lahey.
Jim Lahey is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Lahey misses with a straight left.
Disson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Lahey stuffs the takedown attempt from Disson. Disson gets slowly back to his feet.
A counter left hand to the body from Lahey misses its target.
Kili Disson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kili Disson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Disson shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Lahey defends it nicely.
Lahey was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Disson tries to close the distance and clinch but Lahey swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
An attempted straight right counter from Lahey misses the target.

Kili Disson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Disson shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Lahey defends it nicely.

Lahey displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Disson.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Disson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Lahey as he avoids it easily.
Lahey smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Jim Lahey is winning the standup battle so far.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Lahey swings for the body but Disson moves out of range.

Jim Lahey is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Disson misses with a head kick.
Lahey lands a nice looking body shot.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jim Lahey showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Lahey, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
