PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tree Fortay (ranked 1324 p4p, 403 weight class) and Disco Kid (ranked 151 p4p, 48 weight class). Fortay comes to the cage accompanied by The Choice Is Yours. Kid has chosen Wu Tang Clan - Protect Ya Neck as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Tree Fortay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 29 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Disco Kid!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Phil Schofield and James Glass.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kid takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Fortay circles away from the clinch attempt.
Fortay throws a looping overhand right but Kid ducks down to avoid it.
Kid uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Fortay.
Kid lands with an overhand left.
Fortay lands a head kick. Kid smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Kid motions for Fortay to come forward. Kid throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Fortay has taken the fight to the clinch.
Fortay prevents a body shot from Kid.
Fortay misses with a short punch on the inside.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Fortay.
Kid misses with the head strike.
Fortay blocking some punches.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Fortay.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Fortay throws a lazy right hand but Kid sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Kid drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Fortay defends it well.

Kid fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Fortay, pushing him back against the cage.

Fortay throws a series of punches but Kid avoids them all with ease.

Fortay tries to work over Kid's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Kid pulls guard effortlessly.

Kid is looking for a triangle but Fortay pushes his legs off easily.

Fortay got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kid has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Fortay has managed to get both his arms back between Kid's legs - danger averted.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kid is looking to control Fortay's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kid avoid being mounted?

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kid with a nice cross.
Fortay gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Fortay misses with a looping left.
Fortay swings and misses with a hook to the body.
A jab from Kid misses.
Fortay connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
A slow jab from Kid misses its intended target.
A counter left hand to the body from Fortay misses its target.
Kid stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Fortay throws the left hand but Kid avoids the punch easily.
Kid is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Fortay thows a left - swing and a miss!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tree Fortay will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Kid lands with a hook. Fortay tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Kid shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Fortay but Fortay pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Kid pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Fortay back to the cage. Kid follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Kid tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Fortay paws at him with a jab and circles away.
The fighters circling - Fortay throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Kid doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Fortay throws out a leg kick but Kid moves out of range and Fortay only half commits.
Fortay connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Fortay turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Kid working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

Fortay is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Fortay drops back, looking for a kneebar! Kid looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Kid looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Kid!

Fortay wants to hold on but Kid pushes him away.

Kid takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Kid has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Kid postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Fortay looks a forlorn figure.
Kid wants to control the pace but Fortay is squirming around nicely.
Fortay can't escape the position.
Kid can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Fortay is looking to escape.
Kid breaks from Fortay's wrist control and lands an elbow.

And that's the end of the fight!
Disco Kid comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kid has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Disco Kid spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
