Both these fighters are unbeaten, so somebody's 0 has got to go!Manny Tavares will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Manny Tavares!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tavares is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

It looks like Gus McCrae has been cut.
McCrae missing with a left hand there. Tavares was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
McCrae defending well as Tavares loads up on a big left hand.
McCrae looks to land a right hand but Tavares moved out of range.
A telegraphed right hand from McCrae misses the target.
Tavares steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from McCrae.
McCrae rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Tavares counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
McCrae lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Gus McCrae seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McCrae's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Tavares connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! McCrae scrambles back to his feet.
Tavares uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from McCrae.

McCrae just misses with a punch to the body.

McCrae has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Tavares finds it's way round the side to connect with McCrae's head.

and Tavares counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Tavares scores with a crisp jab that stopped McCrae in his tracks.
Tavares lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but McCrae circles away quickly and effectively.
McCrae misses with a hook. Tavares ducked under it nicely.

McCrae takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Tavares rushes McCrae and presses him up against the cage.
McCrae wants to break free but Tavares has control.

McCrae has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

McCrae tries to break the clinch but Tavares is controlling the position.
Tavares misses with a hook to the ribs.
Tavares scores with an uppercut up the middle.
McCrae tries to work over Tavares's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

McCrae wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

McCrae's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

It seemed like Tavares was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
McCrae on the wrong end of a nice hook.
McCrae jabbing away but nothing is landing.
McCrae walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Tavares looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
McCrae is sent reeling backwards by a solid uppercut. He barely regains his balance and Tavares moves in for the kill throwing a continuous barrage of punches that force the ref to step in.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Manny Tavares!

A very excited looking Manny Tavares rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
In defeat, Gus McCrae stepped up to the mic, saying 'Back to the gym.'.
