PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Aidan McGregor (ranked 3645 p4p, 6134 weight class) and Michael Bisping (ranked 0 p4p, 638 weight class). Michael Bisping will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Aidan McGregor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Michael Bisping!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Donald Grub and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGregor defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Bisping.

A momentary lapse in concentration from McGregor enables Bisping to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. McGregor manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
McGregor wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
McGregor looking to hit a scissor sweep but Bisping is one step ahead there.
Bisping looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
McGregor manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Bisping manages to get himself to full guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McGregor seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

McGregor advances to half guard.
McGregor slows the pace down in half guard.
McGregor has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
McGregor seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Bisping for as long as he can get away with.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Bisping is trying to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Well, if McGregor is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
McGregor's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

McGregor displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Bisping.
A quick step to the side and McGregor tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
McGregor tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Bisping swivels and escapes.

Bisping feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

McGregor pulls Bisping in close to prevent any damage.
Bisping must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
McGregor bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bisping's guard.

McGregor controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Further stalling from McGregor.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Aidan McGregor will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Bisping fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with McGregor, pushing him back against the cage.
Bisping wants to take the fight to the mat but McGregor manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

McGregor gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Bisping regains guard.
McGregor controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
McGregor looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

McGregor is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
McGregor wants to pass the guard but Bisping is keeping the position.

Bisping can't keep his opponent in guard - McGregor advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
McGregor looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Bisping stuffs the takedown attempt from McGregor. McGregor gets slowly back to his feet.
McGregor fails in his attempt to clinch.
Bisping throws a left and a right that both miss
and McGregor counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Bisping forces McGregor back against the cage and clinches.
McGregor blocks a body shot from Bisping.
Bisping tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. McGregor just stands there and leans against the cage.

McGregor changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Bisping fights it off and pushes away nicely.
McGregor shoots for a takedown but Bisping saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Bisping tries to counter with a clinch but McGregor shakes him off and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Aidan McGregor. That's going to take a lot out of him.

McGregor closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - McGregor lands in his opponent's guard.

Bisping sizes up McGregor with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
McGregor tries to clinch up but Bisping circles away and keeps his distance.
Despite the aggression on Bisping's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
McGregor moves away from the strike by Bisping.
Bisping looks for a takedown but McGregor sprawls well.
McGregor takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.

McGregor has managed to clinch.

Bisping tries to break free but McGregor pushes him back against the cage.
Bisping just leaning against McGregor, taking a breather.
Bisping is trying to maintain a safe position but McGregor gets an underhook and turns Bisping into the cage.
Bisping goes for a takedown attempt but McGregor pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Michael Bisping seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McGregor scores with a nice right hand.

McGregor will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Bisping uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from McGregor.

Michael Bisping comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think McGregor has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
