Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Big Jim Yorke! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thijs Meyer! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Cecil Peabody and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Yorke will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Yorke fails in his attempt to clinch. Yorke fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Yorke throws a leg kick but Meyer moved away. Yorke looks to land a combination but Meyer avoids it well. Meyer closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Yorke did well to prevent Meyer getting side control. Meyer passes to side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Meyer works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Meyer connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Yorke some visible discomfort.
Meyer in side control lands a decent elbow. Yorke is looking to reverse the position. Meyer working the head with strikes. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Meyer is working Yorke over with some ground and pound from side control. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Meyer working the ground and pound. Meyer working the head and body with strikes. Yorke knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Meyer on the ground. Check out the look on Meyer's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
That's one minute gone in the round. Meyer in side control, throwing shots but Yorke defends. Yorke is trying to escape the position but Meyer is controlling the position. Meyer working the head with strikes. Yorke is looking for a sweep. Yorke is trying to get back to his feet. Meyer is trying to get an arm triangle but Yorke is defending well. Meyer wants to lay and pray for a moment but Yorke keeps working. Yorke tries to control but Meyer manages to take his back. Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Meyer.
It looks like Big Jim Yorke has been cut. Meyer is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Yorke up.
Big Jim Yorke's cut is getting worse. Yorke is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The referee is taking a good look at Yorke as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Meyer!
Big Jim Yorke's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it. This has been an exciting period of action! Meyer has Yorke flattened out and is raining down punches.
Jeez, Big Jim Yorke's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Big Jim Yorke's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
