PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Hearn (ranked 1369 p4p, 1589 weight class) and Wilhelm Bar (ranked 203 p4p, 232 weight class). Hearn comes to the cage accompanied by Clean Sweep - Graft. The key to victory for Thomas Hearn has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thomas Hearn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Wilhelm Bar!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Thiago Cunha and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hearn keeps the fight on the outside.
Bar avoids a punch combination nicely.
Hearn loads up on a big right hand but Bar slips the punch.
Bar feints a counter leg kick.
Hearn looks to land a right hand but Bar moved out of range.
Bar takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Thomas Hearn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hearn misses with a wild combination.
Bar drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Hearn defends it well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hearn looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Hearn throws a lazy uppercut

and Bar counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Bar wants to work for an arm triangle but Hearn is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Bar is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hearn is just riding it out for now. Bar eventually gives up the hold.
Bar throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Hearn's coaches at Xtreme Black House have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
Hearn regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Bar.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bar with a flurry of punches that miss.
Bar pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hearn is keeping the position for now.
Bar trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Hearn wants to stand up but Bar is controlling him.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Bar pushes down on Hearn's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Bar not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Bar looks to land a strike but Hearn avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Bar makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Bar won't allow Hearn to get back to his feet.

Bar is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Hearn looking for a sweep. Not yet Hearn, not yet.
Bar throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Bar stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hearn swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bar thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Hearn has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bar wants to pass the guard but Hearn is keeping the position.
Bar has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Hearn preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Hearn avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Bar postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Bar drops back looking for a leg! Hearn is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hearn manages to kick Bar off! Bar jumps back into Hearn's guard.
Bar stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hearn swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bar throws a big elbow that misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Hearn is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hearn throws a quick inside leg kick.
Hearn throws the left hand but Bar avoids the punch easily.
Bar has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Bar there as he acknowledges the shot.
Hearn throws a hook but Bar blocks it.
Bar changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Hearn connects with a right hand. Bar shakes it off.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A bone on bone clash there as Bar blocks the leg kick.

Hearn gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Thomas Hearn will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Hearn lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Hearn stuffs the takedown.
Hearn throws a body kick that misses.
Bar tries to counter by closing the distance.
Bar darts in looking for a takedown but Hearn gets double underhooks and turns Bar into the cage.
Hearn throwing a counter right hand but Bar manages to avoid it.
Hearn looks to throw a body kick

and Bar counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Hearn is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Bar is working for takedown but Hearn is calmly controlling the position for now.
Thomas Hearn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wilhelm Bar.
Bar tries to pull guard but Hearn holds him up against the cage and eventually Bar drops back down to his feet.
Hearn stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Hearn gets underhooks to prevent Bar's takedown attempt.
Bar is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bar has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Hearn after a bit of a struggle.
Bar tries to pull guard but Hearn holds him up against the cage and eventually Bar drops back down to his feet.
Hearn gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Bar.
A nice left hand lands by Hearn.
Bar changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Hearn fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Hearn cracks Bar with a right hand to the side of the head.

Bar is rocked!
Hearn lands a brutal uppercut that launches Bar off his feet! Bar tumbles to the floor, barely conscious - the referee jumps in to save him from a beating! Wow, what an ending!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Thomas Hearn!
A pretty intense looking Thomas Hearn took the opportunity post-fight to ask for a shot at the title.
