PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Kerr (ranked 282 p4p, 71 weight class) and Kvame Zulu (ranked 45 p4p, 13 weight class). Zulu has chosen Big Badaboom as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 22 - 0, fighting out of London, Mark Kerr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 36 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kvame Zulu!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Daniel Bishop and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zulu misses with an uppercut. Kerr saw that one coming.
Zulu misses with a lunging right hand
and Kerr counters with a lovely straight right hand!

It looks like Kvame Zulu has been cut.
Zulu pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kerr swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Zulu throws a lazy uppercut
and Kerr connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Nice uppercut lands for Kerr. That snapped Zulu's head back.
Zulu bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Zulu scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Kerr takes one on the button.
Kerr throws a one two combo.

That has opened up Kvame Zulu's cut even more.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Zulu moves out of range as Kerr strikes.
Zulu lands a glancing blow to the side of Kerr's head.
Zulu throws an off balance right hand

and Kerr lands a stunning uppercut that sends Zulu to the mat!
Kerr missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Kerr trying to control the action but Zulu is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kerr is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Zulu keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Zulu slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Kerr seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Kerr in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Kerr trying to control the position from guard on top but Zulu is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kerr has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Kerr wants to pass the guard but Zulu is keeping the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kerr missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Kerr trying to control the position from guard on top but Zulu is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kerr throws a big elbow that misses.
Kerr slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Kerr tries to advance to mount but Zulu denies him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Zulu is looking for a sweep.
Kerr in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Kerr is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Zulu will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Kerr lands a decent elbow from side control.

The cut above Kvame Zulu's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Zulu is trying to get back to half guard.
Kerr landing a few strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kerr working away.
Kerr creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Zulu sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Kerr throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Kerr moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Kerr with the ground and pound but Zulu regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Zulu keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Kerr passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Zulu!
Zulu gets back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kerr content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Kerr lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Kvame Zulu's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Kvame Zulu's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:39 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Mark Kerr!
In his post fight interview, Mark Kerr started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
