PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Herritt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Terry Tang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ryan Herritt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Terry Tang!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Ian Loll and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tang looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Herritt looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Tang stands and throws Herritt's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Herritt sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Tang is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Herritt controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.

Tang seems to be working for a kimura but Herritt defends the submission attempt.

Herritt is trying to stand back up but Tang is controlling him

Tang working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Tang looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Herritt with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Herritt is trying to control but can't.
Tang trying to pass the guard but Herritt defending well.
Herritt manages to get to full guard.
Tang trying to control the position from guard on top but Herritt is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Tang throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Herritt's waist but Herritt gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Tang off to one side.
Tang shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Herritt as he jumps to the side.
Tang tries to clinch but Herritt moves out of range.
A head kick misses from Herritt.

Tang will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Ryan Herritt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Terry Tang.
Herritt shoots for a double leg takedown but Tang sprawls well. He's pushed Herritt's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Herritt fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Herritt closes this distance looking for a takedown but Tang circles away.
Tang misses with a takedown attempt - Herritt sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Tang shoots in but no luck this time.

Herritt shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Herritt was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Tang wants to hold on but Herritt pushes him away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tang slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Herritt stops Tang from getting back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ryan Herritt will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Tang closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Tang lands in his opponent's guard.
Herritt wants to sweep but no luck.
Herritt is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Tang is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Tang keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Herritt's head.
Herritt doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Herritt drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Tang utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Tang is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Herritt is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.
Herritt is trying to stand up.

Tang can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Herritt is looking to escape.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Herritt is looking to get to half guard.

Terry Tang showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Herritt drops back looking for a leg! Tang is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Tang manages to kick Herritt off! Herritt jumps back into Tang's guard.

Tang lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Herritt!

Herritt is looking to stand up but Tang isn't so interested in that idea.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Tang looks to clinch

and Herritt counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Herritt.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Tang jumps guard and drags Herritt to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Terry Tang.
I think Tang has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
