PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Barry Kingsmill (ranked 3661 p4p, 3135 weight class) and Dwayne Wilder (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Wilder's choice of entrance music: Giannis (ft. Anderson Paak) - Freddie Gibbs & Madlib. Barry Kingsmill has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Barry Kingsmill!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dwayne Wilder!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Chris Downing and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kingsmill fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Wilder sprawls well initially but Kingsmill persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Wilder has one foot on Kingsmill's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Wilder scores with a hook.

Barry Kingsmill's cut is getting worse.
Jab by Wilder.
Kingsmill moves out of range as Wilder strikes.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Wilder.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Wilder ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Kingsmill takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Kingsmill rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Wilder moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Kingsmill throws a leg kick but Wilder sees it coming and moves out of range.
Kingsmill slips a jab from Wilder.
Kingsmill throws a lazy head kick
and Wilder counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Barry Kingsmill's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
A head kick misses from Wilder.
Kingsmill shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Wilder sprawls well. Wilder wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Kingsmill gets slowly back to his feet.

Kingsmill shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Wilder but Wilder pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Wilder throws the left hand but Kingsmill avoids the punch easily.

Wilder clinches up against the cage.
Wilder has a couple of punches blocked by Kingsmill.
Wilder tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Kingsmill's elbow.
Kingsmill tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Wilder just stands there and leans against the cage.

Wilder is persisting with his attempts to control the action in the clinch, rather than do any real damage.
Wilder is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Wilder is trying to slow the pace down but that's a couple of times in a row that he's tried to get underhooks and Kingsmill has denied him.

Wilder lands with a right to the head.
Wilder lands a hook to the side of the head.
Kingsmill has Wilder pressed against the cage.
Wilder is pushing Kingsmill up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Kingsmill gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Kingsmill is standing up over Wilder. Wilder looks to escape but Kingsmill dives into side control.

Kingsmill trying to control the action but Wilder is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kingsmill fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Kingsmill remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Kingsmill stands up.

Kingsmill changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Wilder throws a body kick despite being completely out of range

and Kingsmill counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Kingsmill.

Wilder pushes Kingsmill off and gets back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Wilder tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kingsmill paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Wilder looks to score with a jab to the body but Kingsmill is just out of range.

Wilder darts in and clinches Kingsmill up against the cage.
Our sources have told us that Kingsmill has been working on his knees in the buildup to the fight.
Wilder tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Wilder working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Kingsmill wants a takedown.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Dwayne Wilder dominated that round.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Wilder has Kingsmill up against the cage in a clinch.
Kingsmill has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Wilder avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Kingsmill.
Kingsmill is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Wilder to keep the fight standing.
Wilder stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Kingsmill escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Wilder throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Kingsmill tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Wilder manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kingsmill misses with a takedown
enabling Wilder to counter with a crisp jab.

Dwayne Wilder seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Wilder throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Kingsmill on the side of the head.
Kingsmill steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Wilder. That one must have hurt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kingsmill tries to bum rush Wilder with a series of wild strikes but Wilder uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kingsmill is defended easily by Wilder.

Wilder has managed to clinch.
Wilder lands a shoulder strike.
Kingsmill drops down looking for an ankle pick but Wilder pulls his leg out and moves away.
Wilder cracks Kingsmill with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Wilder has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Wilder doesn't manage to clinch there - Kingsmill circles away.

Kingsmill throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Wilder was covering up waiting for the punch and Kingsmill finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kingsmill wants to control from the top but Wilder keeps moving.
Wilder is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Kingsmill dives into side control.
Wilder can't do much from the bottom here.

Kingsmill wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Wilder, who protects the arm well.

Wilder tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Wilder tries to roll but Kingsmill sticks to his back.
Wilder trying to control the action but Kingsmill just sinks the hooks in.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

Barry Kingsmill overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Kingsmill has Wilder flattened out and is raining down punches.

Kingsmill sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! Wilder taps out!
