The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Makela stuffs the takedown.
Makela wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Kawells misses with a takedown attempt - Makela sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Kawells throws the kick towards the body but Makela avoids it.
Kawells moves into range and clinches up with Makela.
Kawells has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Makela clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Makela is trying to escape under a series of strikes and manages to escape from Kawells 's hooks.
Kawells takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Kawells takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Kawells wants to take a breather but Makela is having none of it.

Kawells postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Makela to stand up.
Kawells closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kawells lands in his opponent's guard.

Makela has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kawells can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Makela escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kawells gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
