PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Evan Duvernay (ranked 61 p4p, 558 weight class) and Satanic Panic (ranked 7 p4p, 64 weight class). Panic is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Freezing Moon. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Evan Duvernay! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Satanic Panic! The judges for this bout are William Peck, Elvis Blanc and Ian Loll.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Panic blocks a jab. Duvernay swings for the body but Panic moves out of range.
Duvernay walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Panic scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Panic throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Duvernay throws a lazy uppercut
and Panic holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Panic drags the fight down to the ground.
Duvernay wants to pass the guard but Panic is keeping the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Duvernay avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Duvernay stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Panic swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Panic is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Panic controls Duvernay momentarily but Duvernay frees himself. Duvernay wants to control from the top but Panic keeps moving. Duvernay wants to stand but Panic is controlling his posture from full guard. Our spies down at at Tosen's Home for Lost Boys inform us that Panic has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? Duvernay controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Panic working for a triangle but Duvernay defends it easily.
Panic is trying to control the position but Duvernay postures up. Duvernay is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Andy's Sweaty Men Junior that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet. Panic looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Duvernay passes into side control.
Duvernay staying calm.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Panic tries to buck Duvernay off but Duvernay is having none of it. Panic is trying to escape the position but Duvernay is controlling the position. Duvernay has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Panic tries to improve position but can't. A lull in the action here as Duvernay stalls from top position. The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Panic rushes Duvernay and presses him up against the cage. A nice right hand lands inside from Panic. Duvernay lands a right hand. Panic fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Duvernay pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Duvernay misses with a left hand and Duvernay takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Duvernay throws an off balance right hand
and Panic counters with a lovely straight right hand! Duvernay scores with a one two! Panic had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
It looks like Satanic Panic has been cut. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Panic uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Duvernay.
Panic slips a jab from Duvernay. Duvernay misses with a series of wild punches.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Satanic Panic will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Satanic Panic's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Duvernay is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

and Panic counters into the clinch. Nicely done. A short left from Panic. A left hand lands to the body for Panic.
Panic misses with a punch on the inside.
Panic tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
The referee calls for Panic to work.
Panic tries to pull guard but Duvernay holds him up against the cage and eventually Panic drops back down to his feet.

Panic is trying to pull guard but Duvernay has him pressed against the cage. Evan Duvernay has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Satanic Panic. Duvernay throws an elbow but it misses.

That's one minute gone in the round. Panic tries to pull guard but Duvernay forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Panic is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Duvernay to keep the fight standing. A head punch on the inside from Panic fails to land. Panic tries to pull guard but Duvernay holds him up against the cage and eventually Panic drops back down to his feet.

Duvernay lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage. A short right from Duvernay. A nice glancing elbow lands by Duvernay. Duvernay has a couple of punches blocked by Panic.
Panic misses with a short punch on the inside. Panic fails to pull guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Duvernay is looking to land body kicks. Duvernay missing with a left hand there. Panic was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Panic wants to counter the offense by Duvernay and move into the clinch position. Panic avoids a kick to the body.
Duvernay darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Evan Duvernay is winning the standup battle so far. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Duvernay connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Duvernay throws a looping overhand right but Panic ducks down to avoid it. A nice side step and Panic releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home. Panic closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. A looping hook to the body misses from Duvernay. Panic does a little dance to reset his feet. Panic defending well as Duvernay loads up on a big left hand. Panic is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Duvernay will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
A big left from Panic misses. Oooooh!!! Duvernay has knocked Panic down with a huge combo! Duvernay steps away and waves a wobbly Panic back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
Panic is rocked! Duvernay throws a monster overhand right that drops Panic! Duvernay follows up with more strikes from mount and the fight is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Evan Duvernay! Evan Duvernay retains his lightweight title! Our winner, Evan Duvernay, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
