Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Barry McCockiner (ranked 913 p4p, 2672 weight class) and Ricardo Cruz (ranked 126 p4p, 355 weight class). McCockiner comes to the cage accompanied by Farewell to Cheyenn. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Barry McCockiner! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ricardo Cruz! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Matheus Silva and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McCockiner misses with a hook. Cruz shoots for a double leg takedown but McCockiner sprawls well. He's pushed Cruz's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. McCockiner misses with an uppercut. McCockiner connects with a jab.
It looks like Ricardo Cruz has been cut. McCockiner throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. McCockiner lands a jab to Cruz's midsection. Cruz dives in and grabs McCockiner's left leg, looking for a takedown. McCockiner pushes down on Cruz's head and hops out. Cruz has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight. Cruz shoots in looking for a takedown. McCockiner tries to sprawl out of it but Cruz keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. McCockiner has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Undisputed in the buildup to the fight. Cruz avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Nice defenses there by Cruz. McCockiner jabbing away but nothing is landing. McCockiner with a hook. Cruz ducks under a wild hook from McCockiner. Cruz fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. McCockiner sprawls well initially but Cruz persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Cruz is working for a submission of some sort.

Cruz wants to control from the top but McCockiner keeps moving. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Cruz works over McCockiner with some ground and pound from guard. Cruz tries to free his leg and advance position but McCockiner is retaining full guard. McCockiner looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Cruz feints and as McCockiner raises his hands in defense, Cruz changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. McCockiner is trying to control the position but Cruz postures up. McCockiner wants to get back to his feet but Cruz is in a dominant position and won't allow it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cruz passes easily into side control. Nice work. McCockiner is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Cruz can do to turn this around? McCockiner is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Cruz off and has taken his back! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! McCockiner is not going to allow Cruz to sit and survive in this position.

He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in McCockiner's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Cruz. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round! McCockiner throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. McCockiner missing with a left hand there. Cruz was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Cruz shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with McCockiner but McCockiner pushes him off and we're back to square one. McCockiner looks to score with a jab to the body but Cruz is just out of range. McCockiner throws out a loose jab but Cruz uses good head movement to avoid it. McCockiner is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Cruz blocks a jab. McCockiner tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. McCockiner lands a nice looking body shot.
Cruz looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Barry McCockiner is winning the standup battle so far. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cruz goes for a double leg but McCockiner avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as McCockiner continues to drive forward. McCockiner misses with an uppercut. Cruz saw that one coming. Cruz looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. McCockiner swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Cruz tries for a takedown but McCockiner circles away easily and McCockiner counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. A telegraphed right hand from McCockiner misses the target. McCockiner lands a big head kick that sends Cruz tumbling to the mat! McCockiner takes a step backwards and waves Cruz back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Cruz is rocked!
That has opened up Ricardo Cruz's cut even more. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. McCockiner lands hard precision jab right on the jaw that stiffens Cruz up and sends him tumbling to the mat! The ref grabs McCockiner from behind before he can pounce. Some folks in the crowd didn't like that stoppage, but I saw Cruz's eyes roll way back in his head, he was done.
