Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Calixto Cardona (ranked 112 p4p, 176 weight class) and Futoshi Matsunaga (ranked 10 p4p, 19 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 12 - 0, fighting out of New York, Calixto Cardona!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 34 - 17 - 2, fighting out of New York, Futoshi Matsunaga!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Vladimir Khabensky and Sergei Dronov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cardona moves into the clinch.
Cardona lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Matsunaga or not.
Cardona tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Matsunaga's elbow.
A left hand lands to the body for Cardona.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Cardona creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Matsunaga jumps guard but Cardona stands there with Matsunaga around his waist. Matsunaga gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Matsunaga gets control of Cardona's arms and successfully pulls guard. Matsunaga will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Matsunaga working for a triangle but Cardona defends it easily.
Matsunaga is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cardona defends well.

Cardona wants to control from the top but Matsunaga keeps moving.

Matsunaga is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Cardona is aware though and is defending well.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Cardona postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cardona trying to control but Matsunaga is working from the bottom.
Cardona has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Matsunaga to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Cardona is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Matsunaga pulls down on the head and he's put Cardona to sleep! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Futoshi Matsunaga!
