PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Luke Mcgregor (ranked 1789 p4p, 3538 weight class) and Tounry Winner (ranked 193 p4p, 334 weight class). Tounry Winner told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Luke Mcgregor!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tounry Winner!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Ben Watson and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Winner uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Mcgregor.
Mcgregor dips to his left and cracks Winner with an uppercut!

Winner appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Winner has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

As Mcgregor backs off Winner throws a huge counter combo but Mcgregor manages to avoid it all.

Winner is working for takedown but Mcgregor is calmly controlling the position for now.

Winner has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Mcgregor regains guard immediately.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mcgregor is on top in guard.


Winner had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mcgregor defends it easily.

Winner working for submissions but it's allowed Mcgregor to get to half guard.

Winner is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Mcgregor's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Mcgregor's back!
Mcgregor wants to escape the position.
Mcgregor prevents Winner from getting a body triangle.

Winner seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Mcgregor's chin but Mcgregor turns very nicely into Winner's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Mcgregor.

Winner has his foot on Mcgregor's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mcgregor works his way back into a safe position though.

Mcgregor got a little sloppy there for a moment and Winner has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mcgregor has managed to get both his arms back between Winner's legs - danger averted.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mcgregor won't allow Winner to sweep him here.

Mcgregor has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Winner to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Mcgregor is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Winner pulls down on the head and he's put Mcgregor to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:32 of round 4, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Tounry Winner!
