PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Eric Bridges (ranked 4843 p4p, 5049 weight class) and Sun Chang (ranked 0 p4p, 223 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Eric Bridges!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sun Chang!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Yves DeLean and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bridges goes for a double leg but Chang avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Chang continues to drive forward.
Bridges tries for a takedown. No joy.
Chang stalls.
Chang prevents Bridges from breaking the clinch.
Bridges being controlled against the cage.
Bridges has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Chang is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eric Bridges. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Chang breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chang checks a low kick from Bridges.
Chang is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Bridges with a body shot.
Chang shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bridges as he avoids it easily.
Bridges takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Despite the aggression on Chang's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Chang pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Chang is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Bridges looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Bridges fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Chang avoids it really well and circles away.
Chang shoots in for a double leg but Bridges sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
It looked like Bridges was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Bridges really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
A bit of stalling here from Chang.
Chang tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Bridges just stands there and leans against the cage.
Chang tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Bridges's elbow.
Bridges is trying to force a seperation but Chang has the dominant position.

Chang breaks from the clinch.
A chopping leg kick lands by Chang.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bridges.
Chang misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Bridges.
Chang tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Chang closes the distance and clinches.

Chang gets control of Bridges's arms and successfully pulls guard. Chang will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Chang looking for a sweep. Not yet Chang, not yet.
Bridges trying to control but Chang is working from the bottom.
Chang looking to hit a scissor sweep but Bridges is one step ahead there.

Bridges decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Chang, up you get!

Chang misses with a series of wild punches.

and Bridges connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Chang lands a lovely overhand right.

and Chang counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Chang.

Chang tries to clinch up.
Chang slaps away a takedown attempt from Bridges, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Bridges defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Chang.
Bridges wants to clinch up but Chang keeps it at a distance.

Chang rushes Bridges and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Chang is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Chang has Bridges pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Bridges manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Chang looks winded!
Bridges jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Chang walks away with a smile on his face. Bridges gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Chang dodges the punch combination from Bridges.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Bridges looks for the body kick but Chang saw that one coming.
Bridges fails to land the takedown.
Bridges dives in and grabs Chang's left leg, looking for a takedown. Chang pushes down on Bridges's head and hops out.
Chang slaps away a takedown attempt from Bridges, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Chang throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Chang keeps the fight on the outside.
Sun Chang seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Chang swings for the body but Bridges moves out of range.

and Chang counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bridges gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Chang tries to pull guard but Bridges won't allow it.

Bridges misses with a body kick.
Bridges shoots for a takedown but Chang saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Bridges throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Chang pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Chang shoots in looking for a takedown. Bridges tries to sprawl out of it but Chang keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Bridges manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bridges misses with a takedown attempt - Chang sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Eric Bridges is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Chang shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Bridges as he jumps to the side.
Bridges tries to close the distance and clinch up but Chang swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Chang displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Bridges.
No luck for Bridges with that takedown attempt.
Chang scores with a push kick.

Chang clinches up with Bridges and pushes him back against the cage.

Chang pulls guard successfully.
Chang manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Bridges manages to get himself to full guard.

Bridges preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Chang throws a big elbow that misses.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bridges being controlled here, momentarily.

Bridges will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Chang is thwarting Bridges's attempts to control the position.

Sun Chang showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Chang tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bridges sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Chang somewhat.
Bridges tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Chang manages to circle out of the way.
Bridges throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Chang's waist but Chang gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bridges off to one side.
A nice inside leg kick there by Chang. That's going to slow Bridges down.

Chang scores with a spinning back kick!
Chang is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Bridges rather than just go for the knockout.

Bridges pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

A kick lands to the mid section there for Chang.
Chang keeps the fight on the outside.
Chang appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Bridges crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Chang - the referee stops the clock and Bridges gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Chang. Bridges manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Chang ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Chang no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Chang is on top in guard.

Chang decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Bridges lands a left hand that snaps the head of Chang backwards.
Bridges is looking to break free of the clinch but Chang has double underhooks.
Chang tries to pull guard but Bridges holds him up against the cage and eventually Chang drops back down to his feet.

and Chang counters with a series of strikes. Bridges will be more careful next time no doubt.

Chang looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Chang has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bridges can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Chang throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Eric Bridges has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Sun Chang is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Sun Chang comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Chang has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
