PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Domaydo Cann (ranked 2781 p4p, 2877 weight class) and Juares Dea (ranked 348 p4p, 366 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Domaydo Cann!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Juares Dea!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Trevor Gratis and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cann fails with the takedown
and Dea counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Cann changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dea tries to avoid it but Cann manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dea to the ground. Dea escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Dea is looking for the big counter here.
Dea fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Cann tries to counter with a takedown but Dea is quick to defend against it.

Cann drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Cann in the domination position with Dea hanging on.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cann working the head with strikes.
Cann creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Dea sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
I wouldn't like to be where Dea is right now.
Cann has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That's one minute gone in the round.
You can see the frustration on Dea's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Dea tries to bench press Cann off him but Cann keeps the position.

Cann goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Dea rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Cann's guard! Nice work there by Dea!
Cann is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Cann is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Dea doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Cann.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dea tries to get to full guard but Cann has control of the leg.
Dea holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Cann is keen to just control but Dea is a slippery customer.

Cann is working for an americana but Dea has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Cann was thinking about the submission.
Cann working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dea is trying to control the position but Cann postures up.
Cann sitting in guard here, content to control.
Dea keeping moving, preventing Cann from controlling successfully.
Cann postures up in Dea's guard and throws a big left but Dea blocks it.
Cann throws a big right hand that misses.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
Cann controlling from the top position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Dea tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Cann manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Dea slaps away a takedown attempt from Cann, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Domaydo Cann. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Dea bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Dea goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Cann has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Dea but great work by Cann.
Dea is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Cann landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Dea wants to get back to full guard but Cann has mounted him!
Cann lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
The referee warns Dea that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Dea is rocked!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Domaydo Cann dominated that round.
That's time! Cann's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Cann shoots in and gets a takedown into Dea's guard.
Domaydo Cann overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Cann stands up over Dea, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Dea is still in real trouble! Can Cann finish him?
Cann throws a strike but Dea rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Dea seems to have recovered his senses.

Cann is looking to cinch up a triangle. Dea throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Cann's body to avoid the submission. Cann has instead reached around Dea's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Cann arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Domaydo Cann!
In defeat, Juares Dea stepped up to the mic, saying 'Mentally, I'm feeling more like myself again.'.
