Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Frank Diaz (ranked 3915 p4p, 2651 weight class) and Herlock Von Ryan (ranked 498 p4p, 361 weight class). Von Ryan comes into a darkened arena with his song building. The Crystal Method - Play For Real (Dirtyphonics Remix) kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Diaz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 11 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Herlock Von Ryan! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Percy O'Donnell and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Diaz scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. We've been hearing good reports from Diaz's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Von Ryan wants to control but Diaz is keeping busy and won't allow it. Diaz content to control rather than advance. Diaz is looking to take a break and control but Von Ryan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Von Ryan blocking the ground and pound attempt from Diaz. Diaz is trying to work for a kimura but Von Ryan is defending well.
Diaz seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Von Ryan does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Diaz is looking to stall here but Von Ryan recovers full guard. Von Ryan is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Diaz controls from within his opponent's guard. Diaz scoring with punches to the head and body. Diaz engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Von Ryan trying to control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Diaz looking to pass the guard. Diaz throws an elbow that misses. Von Ryan uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Diaz's guard. Nice move by Von Ryan!

Frank Diaz dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action! Von Ryan uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Diaz. Diaz connects with the punch. Diaz shoots and misses and Von Ryan counters with a straight right hand.
It looks like Frank Diaz has been cut. Diaz looks to throw the jab but Von Ryan is out of range. Von Ryan let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land. Diaz closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Von Ryan to the mat! Von Ryan manages to get full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Diaz wants to pass the guard but Von Ryan is keeping the position. Diaz controlling from the top position. Frank Diaz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Von Ryan wants to sweep here but Diaz controlling him for the moment. Von Ryan says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Diaz is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Von Ryan can do to turn this around? Diaz is working for a kimura but Von Ryan is defending it quite comfortably.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Diaz looks to land a strike but Von Ryan avoids it nicely and regains full guard. Diaz postures up in Von Ryan's guard and throws a big left but Von Ryan blocks it. Diaz controlling from the top position. Diaz in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Diaz throws a strike but Von Ryan rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Von Ryan passes into half guard. Von Ryan looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards. Diaz goes for a double leg but Von Ryan avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Von Ryan continues to drive forward. As Diaz backs off Von Ryan throws a huge counter combo but Diaz manages to avoid it all. Diaz is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Von Ryan gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Diaz tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him. Von Ryan manages to break the clinch.
Frank Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Diaz throws out a loose jab but Von Ryan uses good head movement to avoid it. Diaz shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Von Ryan is trying to defend but Diaz finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Von Ryan is trying to maintain the position but Diaz is very close to passing his half guard. Diaz performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Diaz. Diaz looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Diaz is looking to work some ground and pound but Von Ryan has wrist control.

Diaz trying to control the position from guard on top but Von Ryan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Diaz stands and throws Von Ryan's legs to the side, diving into side control. Diaz tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Diaz advances to full mount. Von Ryan is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Herlock Von Ryan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Diaz throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. Diaz jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Von Ryan is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Von Ryan and Diaz has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Diaz in side control, just content to control the action for now. Diaz tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Diaz has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Diaz in side control lands a decent elbow. Von Ryan is not content to let Diaz control the position.

Diaz misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Diaz in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Frank Diaz is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Diaz moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. Von Ryan is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Von Ryan is looking to improve his position.
And that's the end of the fight! Frank Diaz showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Diaz, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
