PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Jesse (ranked 24048 p4p, 6031 weight class) and Tim Neer (ranked 0 p4p, 619 weight class). The key to victory for Frank Jesse has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Jesse!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tim Neer!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Chris Downing and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jesse tries to sprawl but Neer drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Jesse makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Jesse.
Neer trying to control but Jesse is working from the bottom.
Jesse tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Neer advances position into side control!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Neer wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jesse keeps working.
Who's going to make the next move?

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jesse is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Jesse is trying to get back to half guard.
Neer working away.
Jesse gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Jesse wants to improve his position but Neer is controlling well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Neer is looking to take a break and control but Jesse is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Jesse is trying to control but can't.
Neer prevents Jesse from improving his position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Neer is just content to waste time from the top position. Jesse takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Jesse has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Neer can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Jesse lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Jesse missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Neer working a defensive guard but Jesse passes into half guard.

Neer trying to control but Jesse postures up.

Jesse is looking for a kimura but Neer is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Jesse to get the leverage.

Jesse is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jesse tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Neer.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Jesse dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Neer has his takedown stuffed
letting Jesse counter with a right hand.
Jesse tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Neer is able to avoid easily.
Neer blocks the body kick.

Jesse moves into the clinch.
Jesse looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Jesse is trying to force a seperation but Neer has the dominant position.

Jesse works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Neer controls Jesse momentarily but Jesse frees himself.

Neer isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Jesse stacks Neer on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Jesse!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jesse advances to full mount.

Jesse wants to control the pace but Neer is squirming around nicely.
Neer tries to reverse the position but Jesse maintains control.
Neer wants to control but Jesse is having none of it.
Neer is squirming around, avoiding Jesse's attempts to control the action.
Neer is working to get back to half guard.
Neer is breathing heavily.
Neer tries to lock up and control but Jesse gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Jesse stands up from mount. Strange move.

Jesse instigates a clinch.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Jesse takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Neer has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Jesse is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Jesse manages to break the clinch.
Jesse throws a leg kick

and Neer counters with a single leg into guard. Jesse didn't expect that.
Jesse looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Jesse not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Jesse trying to strike off his back.
Neer stopping the sweep attempt from Jesse.

Neer is fighting to break Jesse's control of his arms but Jesse is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jesse is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Jesse bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Neer's guard.

Jesse trying to control but Neer is working from the bottom.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Neer can do anything to dispel that myth.
Jesse is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Jesse slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neer seems a little lost for a moment, as Jesse dominates the positioning.
Neer is looking for a sweep.

Jesse tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jesse has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Neer struggling a bit here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Jesse dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Jesse closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Jesse seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Neer is refusing to be controlled, as Jesse sits in half guard.

Jesse decides to stand and escape the position.
Jesse scores with a sloppy right hand. Neer should have avoided that one.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jesse moves into the clinch.

Jesse decides to pull guard.
Neer is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Jesse has his foot on Neer's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Neer works his way back into a safe position though.
Neer missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Jesse is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Neer presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Neer takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Jesse has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Neer regains guard immediately.
Jesse trying to control the position from guard on top but Neer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Jesse stands up from Neer's guard - Jesse perhaps looking for a knockout.

Jesse pushes Neer up against the cage in a clinch.
Jesse wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Jesse looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Jesse pulls Neer into guard.
Jesse lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Neer is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jesse is controlling Neer's trapped leg to prevent Neer from advancing to side control.

Jesse tries to get to full guard but Neer has control of the leg.
Jesse wants to control but Neer is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Neer is trying to control. Jesse wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Jesse manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Neer keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Neer has Jesse pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Jesse manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Neer tries to pull guard but Jesse forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Jesse gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neer is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Neer keeping moving, preventing Jesse from controlling successfully.
Jesse is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Neer is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Jesse controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Neer is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Well Jesse has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
