PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mumma Cuddla (ranked 4730 p4p, 5214 weight class) and Walbert Don (ranked 455 p4p, 491 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Mumma Cuddla!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Walbert Don!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, William Gold and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Don tries to close the distance and clinch but Cuddla swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Cuddla swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Don.
Cuddla lands the left hand.
Don throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Don instigates a clinch.

Cuddla escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Don walks into a jab.
Donk. Don catches Cuddla right on the button with a cross.

It looks like Mumma Cuddla has been cut.

Don gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Don is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Don has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Cuddla is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Cuddla wants to break the clinch but can't.
Don lands a left hand.
Cuddla is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Cuddla is trying to force a seperation but Don has the dominant position.
Cuddla jumps guard but Don turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Cuddla wants to break free but Don has control.
Cuddla working hard to break the clinch.
Don wants a takedown.
Mumma Cuddla has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Walbert Don.
Cuddla is trying to break free.

Don drags the fight down to the ground.
Cuddla loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Don is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Cuddla wants to control from the top but Don keeps moving.
Don throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Don has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Cuddla off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Don throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Cuddla's head.
Don darts in looking for a takedown but Cuddla gets double underhooks and turns Don into the cage.

Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Cuddla!

It looks like Walbert Don has been cut.
Cuddla connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Don's hands.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Don circles away from the clinch attempt.
Don tries to counter with a clinch but Cuddla shakes him off and moves away.
Don displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Don shoots in for a double leg but Cuddla sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Don looks winded!
Don on the wrong end of a nice jab.

Cuddla has taken the fight to the clinch.
A nice left hand lands by Cuddla.
Cuddla presses Don against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.

Cuddla manages to break the clinch.

Don shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Don is working for a kimura but Cuddla is defending it quite comfortably.

Cuddla preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Don stops Cuddla from getting back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Don trying to control from half guard but Cuddla is working away.
Don takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Don sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Cuddla defending well though.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Cuddla cracks Don with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Don takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Sloppy strikes from Cuddla. Those never looked like landing.

Don scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Don misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Cuddla is trying to control Don's posture but Don avoids it.
Cuddla seems a little lost for a moment, as Don dominates the positioning.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mumma Cuddla will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's time! Back to the action!

Cuddla throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Don.
Cuddla takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Cuddla throws a leg kick

and Don counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Don.
Walbert Don has got the better of the ground game so far.
Don trying to control but Cuddla is working from the bottom.
Don seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Don stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cuddla swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cuddla trying to keep a closed guard but Don is proving a slippery customer.

Don trying to control the position from guard on top but Cuddla is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Cuddla is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Don looking to sit in guard and control but Cuddla gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Don is on top in guard.

Cuddla wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Don throws a strike but Cuddla rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.


Don is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Don is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Cuddla trying to control but Don is working from the bottom.
Cuddla stopping the sweep attempt from Don.
Don is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Cuddla prevents Don from getting back to his feet.

Cuddla decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Cuddla is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Sloppy strikes from Cuddla. Those never looked like landing.
Cuddla fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Don has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Cuddla leaves Don with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Mumma Cuddla is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Don is breathing heavily.
Cuddla throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Cuddla rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Don moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Good shot there by Cuddla.

and Don counters by clinching up.
Cuddla is trying to break the clinch but Don is controlling him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cuddla tries to break free but Don pushes him back against the cage.
Cuddla is looking to break free of the clinch but Don has double underhooks.
Don goes for a takedown attempt but Cuddla pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Cuddla misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Cuddla looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Don drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Cuddla defends it well.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cuddla fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Cuddla crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Don - the referee stops the clock and Cuddla gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Don. Cuddla manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Don shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Don was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Don decides to stand back up. Don steps back and let's Cuddla get back to his feet.
Some wild striking there from Don.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Mumma Cuddla dominated that second round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Cuddla tries to clinch up.
Don tries to score a power double leg takedown but Cuddla sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Don somewhat.
Don has a takedown stuffed.
Don's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Cuddla connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Don scrambles back to his feet.
Cuddla misses with the combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cuddla is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Cuddla clinches up with Don and pushes him back against the cage.

Don drags the fight down to the ground.

Cuddla scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Don pulls Cuddla in close to prevent any damage.
Don takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Cuddla trying to control the position from guard on top but Don is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Cuddla postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Don avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Cuddla throws a strike but Don rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Don is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Don gets to his feet. Cuddla looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Cuddla throws the left hand but Don avoids the punch easily.
Don doesn't manage to clinch there - Cuddla circles away.
Cuddla tries to bum rush Don with a series of wild strikes but Don uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Don throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Cuddla tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Don is in Cuddla's guard.

Cuddla wants to get back to his feet but Don passes into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Don throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Cuddla to regain full guard.
Cuddla keeping moving, preventing Don from controlling successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Mumma Cuddla is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Don connects with a couple of short punches.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cuddla wants to stand but Don is controlling the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Cuddla tries to clinch but Don moves out of range.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Cuddla closes the distance looking to clinch
and Don counters with a series of strikes. Cuddla will be more careful next time no doubt.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Walbert Don.
I think Cuddla has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
