PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bob Jenkins (ranked 3095 p4p, 5215 weight class) and Anthony Smith (ranked 384 p4p, 583 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Bob Jenkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Anthony Smith!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Phil Schofield and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith shoots in looking for a takedown but Jenkins manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Smith's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Jenkins moves in looking to clinch but Smith pushes him off.
Jenkins's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Jenkins duly obliges.
Smith tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
A combination from Jenkins does no damage.
Smith will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Jenkins clinches with his opponent.
Jenkins gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Smith.
Bob Jenkins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anthony Smith.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Jenkins takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Jenkins decides to pull guard.
Smith wants to control from the top but Jenkins keeps moving.

Jenkins working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Smith has passed into half guard!

Smith seems to be looking for submissions.
Jenkins is trying to stand up here but Smith is controlling him well.
Jenkins is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Smith seems to be working for a kimura but Jenkins defends the submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jenkins is looking to improve his position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Jenkins moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Smith trying to control the position from guard on top but Jenkins is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Smith accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Jenkins wants to stand and escape but Smith is having none of it.
Smith forces his way into half guard.

Jenkins wants to get back to his feet.
Jenkins is not content to let Smith control the position.
Smith stops Jenkins from getting back to his feet.
Smith has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Jenkins works to full guard.
Smith won't allow Jenkins to get back to his feet.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Jenkins moves into range and clinches up with Smith.
Smith manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Jenkins is looking to break free of the clinch but Smith has double underhooks.
Smith fails to pull guard.
Smith wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Jenkins has him pressed against the cage.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Smith's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Smith successfully pulls guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Jenkins dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Smith shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Jenkins defends it nicely.
Smith keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Smith is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.

Smith closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Smith lands in his opponent's guard.
Jenkins is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Smith dives into side control.

Smith tries to score with some ground and pound. Jenkins controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Smith decides to stand back up.
Smith uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jenkins.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Smith tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Jenkins defends well and Smith ends up having to push Jenkins into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Jenkins tries to clinch but Smith is having none of it.

Smith scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
A lull in the action here.
Smith tries to advance to mount but can't.
Jenkins is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Smith's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Jenkins scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Smith manages to mount him!

Smith is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Jenkins to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Jenkins shrugs it off.

Smith scoring with strikes but Jenkins is staying in there.
Jenkins tries to buck Smith off but he can't manage it.
Smith pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Jenkins keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Smith working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Jenkins wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Jenkins is trying desperately to improve position.

Smith sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Jenkins is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Smith has taken his back!

Jenkins looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Smith lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.

Smith is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Jenkins has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Jenkins trying to get back to his feet but Smith is in full control for now.

Smith looking to break Jenkins's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Jenkins remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Smith will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Jenkins wants to get back to his feet.
Smith is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Smith has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Jenkins has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Smith is hanging on to Jenkins's back as he tries to escape.
Jenkins is trying to stand back up.
Smith trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Smith slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith has the hooks in. Jenkins is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Smith is looking for a choke. Jenkins gets to his feet with his opponent on his back and slams him to the mat. Jenkins manages to squirm out of the attempted choke and turns into his opponent's guard.
Smith is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Jenkins looking to sit in guard and control but Smith gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Jenkins working a defensive guard but Smith passes into half guard.
Jenkins wants to stand back up but Smith manages to pass into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Smith swings around for an armbar but Jenkins sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Smith's guard.
Jenkins cracks Smith with a solid left hand.
Jenkins trying to control the position from guard on top but Smith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Jenkins chips away with some ground and pound.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Smith holds on and takes a little breather.
Smith controls Jenkins momentarily but Jenkins frees himself.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
Anthony Smith comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Smith has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
