The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bowen closes the distance looking to clinch

Bowen gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Mary to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Bowen wants to get back to his feet but Mary passes into half guard.

Mary stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Bowen to get to his feet.

and Mary counters with a nice kick to the body.
Bowen is breathing heavily.

Mary shoots in and gets a takedown into Bowen's guard.
Bowen wants to get back to his feet but Mary passes into half guard.

Mary perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Mary decides to stand up.

Bowen is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Mary dives into side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mary stands up.
Mary scores with a nice body kick.
Makebono Bowen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mary closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Bowen throws a lazy head kick
and Mary counters with a nice kick to the body.

Mary changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bowen looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Mary stands up and beckons Bowen to his feet.

Mary decides to stand back up. Mary steps back and let's Bowen get back to his feet.

Mary looking to score a takedown here. Bowen is defending well but Mary drives through and ends up in Bowen's guard.
Bowen is wriggling around but Mary manages to pass to half guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Mary shoots in and gets a takedown into Bowen's guard.
Bowen wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Mary manages to pass to side control.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Mary looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Bowen!

Mary decides to stand back up. Mary steps back and let's Bowen get back to his feet.

and Mary counters with a nice uppercut.

It looks like Makebono Bowen has been cut.
Mary has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Mary darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Bowen tries to kick Mary off in order to stand up. Mary Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Mary stands up.

Mary shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Mary was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Mary is working to tighten his grip on Bowen's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Bowen has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Mary is really squeezing tight and eventually Bowen passes out! Mary breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
