Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Varelans (ranked 5907 p4p, 7237 weight class) and Helen Salvacion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Paul Varelans has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paul Varelans!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Helen Salvacion!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Robert Twigg and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Varelans thows a leg kick but Salvacion checks it

and Salvacion counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Salvacion looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Varelans trying to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salvacion seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Salvacion with a flurry of punches that miss.
Salvacion is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Let's hope that Salvacion has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Varelans throws a sloppy head kick and Salvacion moves out of range easily.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Salvacion drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Salvacion's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

and Salvacion counters with a single leg into guard. Varelans didn't expect that.

We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Salvacion.
Varelans might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Paul Varelans seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Varelans misses with a kick to the body
and Salvacion counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Varelans tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Salvacion has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Varelans pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Salvacion let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Varelans tries to land a front kick but Salvacion steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Salvacion is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Varelans throws a head kick that misses.
Salvacion flicks out a counter leg kick but Varelans steps away.

Salvacion misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Varelans is trying to escape the position but Salvacion is controlling the position.
Yet more stalling tactics from Salvacion.
Varelans dodges the ground and pound from Salvacion.
The strikes coming from Salvacion are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Varelans throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Varelans looks to land a body kick but Salvacion moved away.
Salvacion thinks about the counter body kick.

Salvacion bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Salvacion remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The adventures of Salvacion the control monster continue. Boring.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Thud! ouch! good body kick from Varelans - that will leave a mark!
Salvacion takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Varelans tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Salvacion is able to avoid easily.

Varelans gets caught napping as Salvacion dives in and scores a takedown. Varelans manages to retain guard.

I've got Salvacion winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
