PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dustin Ribas (ranked 6936 p4p, 6663 weight class) and Cameron White (ranked 493 p4p, 480 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dustin Ribas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Cameron White!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Gregory Folan and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ribas closes the distance and clinches.
White looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Ribas throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
White is looking to break free of the clinch but Ribas has double underhooks.
White is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

White pulls guard successfully.
Ribas postures up.
White being controlled here, momentarily.
Ribas wants to pass the guard but White is keeping the position.
Ribas is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ribas's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
We've been hearing good reports from Ribas's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Ribas not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
White is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Ribas rushes White and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Ribas breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
White misses with an uppercut.
It looked like Ribas wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Ribas stuffs the takedown attempt from White. White gets slowly back to his feet.

Horrible takedown attempt by White or perhaps it was just good defense by Ribas, which made it look bad.
White takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Ribas dives in for a single leg takedown but White sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
White tries to break the clinch but Ribas is controlling the position.
Ribas drops down looking for an ankle pick but White pulls his leg out and moves away.

Ribas drives through and clinches with White against the cage.

White fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Dustin Ribas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cameron White.
Ribas tries to score a power double leg takedown but White sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ribas somewhat.

Ribas moves into the clinch.
Ribas has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by White after a bit of a struggle.

Ribas breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ribas jabs White to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Ribas rushes White and presses him up against the cage.

Ribas escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

White tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ribas paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Ribas feints and as White raises his hands in defense, Ribas changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now White is on top in guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ribas working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. White doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. White manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
White tries to free his leg and advance position but Ribas is retaining full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ribas has White pulled in close to control his posture.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Ribas throws a solid leg kick but White takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Ribas.
White shoots for a double leg takedown but Ribas sprawls well. He's pushed White's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Ribas moves into the clinch.
Ribas is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that White can do to turn this around?

Ribas is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

White is trying to control Ribas's posture but Ribas avoids it.

White just trying to survive but Ribas is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
White avoids the strikes from Ribas.
Ribas slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Ribas really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for White.

Ribas changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. White tries to avoid it but Ribas manages to keep hold of a leg and drag White to the ground. White escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Ribas half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Ribas breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
White shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ribas as he avoids it easily.
White tries to clinch but Ribas is having none of it.
Ribas looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Ribas misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
White misses with a wild body shot.

Nice takedown defense from White. No joy for Ribas on that attempt.

White gets tackled into the cage by Ribas. Ribas maintains the clinch.

White shoots in looking for a takedown but Ribas manages to keep the fight standing, pushing White's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

White swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

and White decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Ribas's guard.

Ribas pushes White off and scrambles back to his feet.
White shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Ribas holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

White sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Ribas's guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
White is trying to control the action in half guard but Ribas is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Ribas is looking for a sweep. White is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
White passes to side control.
Ribas is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on White's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
