PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lamon Kantawong (ranked 5735 p4p, 3683 weight class) and David Scott (ranked 596 p4p, 460 weight class). The key to victory for Lamon Kantawong has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lamon Kantawong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Scott!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, George Francis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kantawong misses with a body shot.

Scott shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kantawong manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Scott postures up.
Scott is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Kantawong wants to get back to his feet but Scott is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Kantawong has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Scott pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kantawong is keeping the position for now.
Scott wants to control from the top but Kantawong keeps moving.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Kantawong lands with a kick to the ribs.
Kantawong throws a head kick but Scott moves out of range.
Scott misses the jab.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kantawong will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Scott gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Scott looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Lamon Kantawong is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Scott misses with a looping left.
Kantawong just misses with a punch to the body.

Kantawong gets caught napping as Scott dives in and scores a takedown. Kantawong manages to retain guard.

Scott thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.

Scott dives in and scores a takedown into Kantawong's guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Kantawong manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Kantawong is looking to break free of the clinch but Scott has double underhooks.

Scott tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Scott gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Kantawong regains guard.
Scott tries to free his leg and advance position but Kantawong is retaining full guard.
Scott passes Kantawong's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Scott stalling.
Kantawong won't allow Scott to pass to mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kantawong wants to get back to his feet.
Scott is figuring out what he wants to do next.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but David Scott will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Scott bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Scott thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Kantawong tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Scott wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Scott throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Scott working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

David Scott has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kantawong can't do much from the bottom here.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Kantawong is looking to regain half guard here but Scott keeps moving and retains side control.
Scott prevents Kantawong from escaping the position.

Scott swings around for an armbar but Kantawong sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Scott's guard.
Scott wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Kantawong tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Scott tries to buck Kantawong off but Kantawong is having none of it.
Kantawong is looking to take a break and control but Scott is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Scott is trying to control Kantawong's posture but Kantawong avoids it.
Scott is trying to get back to half guard.
Scott is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Kantawong is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kantawong tries to control but Scott wriggling away.
Scott tries to reverse the position but Kantawong maintains control.
Scott is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Scott is squirming around, avoiding Kantawong's attempts to control the action.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Scott can't escape the position.
Scott prevents Kantawong from taking his back.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Lamon Kantawong dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Scott shoots in and bounces Kantawong off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Kantawong is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Scott seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Scott stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kantawong swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Scott's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Scott works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Scott is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kantawong is just riding it out for now. Scott eventually gives up the hold.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kantawong is trying to maintain the position but Scott is very close to passing his half guard.
Scott wants to take a breather but Kantawong is having none of it.

Kantawong tries to kick Scott off but Scott keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Scott is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Scott is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Kantawong's half guard.

David Scott comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Scott has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
