PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Aeric The Spartan (ranked 4583 p4p, 24919 weight class) and Olijunde Achebe (ranked 448 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Olijunde Achebe!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Ian Loll and Yves DeLean.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fighters circling - Achebe throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
The Spartan went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Achebe moves out of range of the body kick.
The Spartan throws a half hearted mid kick.
Achebe takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Aeric The Spartan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The Spartan fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Achebe looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Achebe tries to bum rush The Spartan with a series of wild strikes but The Spartan uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

and Achebe counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Achebe.

The Spartan wants to stand up but Achebe is controlling him.
Achebe works a leg free and moves into half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Achebe lands a nice short elbow.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Achebe's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Achebe winds up and cracks The Spartan with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

It looks like Achebe might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The Spartan wants to get back to his feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Achebe seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Achebe lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Achebe is continuing to stall.
The Spartan pushes Achebe off looking to stand but Achebe dives back in and keeps control.
Achebe is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Achebe connects with a nice short shot to The Spartan's temple.
Achebe has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The Spartan looks like he's trying to stand up.

Achebe slips a nice elbow through The Spartan's hands, connecting with The Spartan's forehead.
Achebe winds up and cracks The Spartan with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
The Spartan is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Achebe scores with a couple of nice shots.

Achebe uses his free foot to push down on The Spartan's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for The Spartan.
The Spartan on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if The Spartan tries to get out of the position.
The Spartan is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Achebe lands with some strikes.
Achebe lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Achebe postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. The Spartan looks a forlorn figure.
Oh The Spartan is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Achebe loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have The Spartan scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Achebe land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Achebe stands and salutes the crowd.
