Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Krzys Soszynski! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johnny Calavar! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Calavar gets caught flat footed, as Soszynski shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Soszynski content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Soszynski distracts Calavar with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Soszynski gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Soszynski misses with an uppercut. Calavar saw that one coming. Calavar pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Calavar swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Calavar throws a right and a left that both miss. Soszynski ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Calavar lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Soszynski misses with a low kick.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Soszynski ducks under a wild hook from Calavar. Calavar throws a series of punches but Soszynski moves out of range. Soszynski will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Johnny Calavar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Calavar is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Soszynski. Calavar misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

That's one minute gone in the round. Calavar fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Soszynski gets the takedown into side control. Calavar is trying to get back to his feet. Soszynski has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Soszynski looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Soszynski stands up from guard. Let's bang! Calavar fails to land with a series of punches.
Soszynski scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Calavar looks gassed! Soszynski has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Calavar! Soszynski looking to control but Calavar is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Calavar really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Soszynski. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Calavar is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

That's two minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Soszynski is working for a guillotine from mount but Calavar frees his head quite easily.

Calavar is trying to stand. Soszynski landing strikes from the mount. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Calavar can do anything to dispel that myth. Calavar wants to try and get back to his feet. Soszynski has control of Calavar's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Calavar regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Soszynski scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Calavar?
Soszynski lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Calavar wants to try and get back to his feet. Soszynski stands up from mount. Strange move.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Soszynski throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Calavar's waist but Calavar gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Soszynski off to one side. Soszynski shoots in and bounces Calavar off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Calavar uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Calavar throws a nice looking combination but Soszynski bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Calavar misses with a hook. Soszynski ducked under it nicely. Calavar tries to bum rush Soszynski with a series of wild strikes but Soszynski uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Calavar looks to land a combination but Soszynski avoids it well. Calavar gets caught flat footed, as Soszynski shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Soszynski scoring with punches to the head and body. Soszynski connects with a couple of short punches. Calavar wants to stand up but Soszynski is controlling him.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Calavar can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Soszynski controls the pace. Soszynski works a leg free and moves into half guard. Soszynski working Calavar over with strikes. Calavar is in trouble now - Soszynski has advanced to mount! Soszynski looking to finish Calavar with some ground and pound. This is bad for Calavar! Soszynski has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Calavar defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Soszynski. Soszynski is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Calavar can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Calavar is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Soszynski is looking to clinch. Calavar fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Soszynski manages to avoid it. No joy there for Calavar, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Calavar takes a swing at Soszynski's ribcage but misses. Soszynski shoots in but Calavar avoids the takedown attempt easily. Calavar misses with a two punch combination.
Soszynski shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Soszynski with good strikes from the mount here! Calavar is breathing heavily. Calavar is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
That's one minute gone in the round. A nice elbow there by Soszynski. Soszynski has isolated one of Calavar's arms. Calavar looking to fight him off but Soszynski twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
