PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tom Trayans (ranked 2568 p4p, 2935 weight class) and Pascal Barao (ranked 300 p4p, 332 weight class). Trayans comes to the cage accompanied by Non-Natty Anthem. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tom Trayans!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pascal Barao!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Colin Fray and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Barao shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Barao controlling from the top position.
Barao stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Trayans swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Barao's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Let's hope that Barao has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Barao throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Trayans tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Barao is in Trayans's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Barao tries to free his leg and advance position but Trayans is retaining full guard.

Barao won't allow Trayans to get back to his feet.

It looks like Barao might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Barao has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Trayans throws a head kick that misses.
Barao shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Trayans as he avoids it easily.
Trayans takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Barao closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Trayans's guard.

Trayans has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Barao has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Barao has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Trayans is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Barao tightens his grip and picks Trayans up, before dumping him to the ground. Trayans manages to land in guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Barao prevents Trayans from getting back to his feet.
Barao's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Pascal Barao dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Barao fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Trayans to the ground. Barao is now in Trayans's guard.
Trayans can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Barao controls the pace.
More stalling from Barao.
Barao passes Trayans's left leg - he's now in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barao is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Trayans!

Trayans is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Barao with more of the same as he continues to hold on.

Barao has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Pascal Barao showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Trayans tries to sprawl but Barao drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barao looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Trayans is looking to get back to is feet but Barao passes into side control.
Barao happy to just control the position for now.

We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Barao.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Trayans thows a leg kick but Barao checks it
and Barao connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Barao gets the takedown into side control.
Barao controls the position from side control.
Barao is continuing to stall.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The adventures of Barao the control monster continue. Boring.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Barao closes the distance and clinches up with Trayans, looking for a takedown. Barao pushes Trayans against the cage but Trayans circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Barao throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Barao throws a head kick that misses.

Barao closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Trayans quickly recovers to half guard.
Trayans is trying to stand back up but Barao is controlling him
Barao tries to pass to full mount but Trayans defends it.
Trayans is trying to stand up here but Barao is controlling him well.
Tom Trayans has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Barao is taking a breather. Trayans says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Trayans is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Barao pulls his head out easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
Pascal Barao comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Barao winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
