CACC 184: Hozdic vs Neuer PBP Commentary |
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the featherweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Amsterdam, with a TWGC record of 13 wins and 12 losses; Tribbiani Joey! And in the blue corner, fighting out of London, with a TWGC record of 34 wins and 19 losses; Rodney Holzken! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Joey tries to close the distance and clinch but Holzken swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Joey gets in close and instigates a clinch. Joey jumps guard and drags Holzken to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Holzken wants to control from the top but Joey keeps moving. Holzken postures up.
Holzken trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Joey pulls Holzken in close to prevent any damage. Holzken pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Joey is keeping the position for now. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Holzken trying to control the position from guard on top but Joey is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Joey is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. My spies in Shut Up & Train! {$1000} inform me that Holzken has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
That's one minute gone in the round. Holzken is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Holzken controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Holzken trying to control but Joey is working from the bottom. Joey has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Joey throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Holzken wants to control from the top but Joey keeps moving.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Holzken won't allow Joey to sweep him here. Holzken pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Joey is keeping the position for now. Holzken is still trying to improve position. Joey is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Holzken looking to pass the guard. Joey tries to land a sweep but no joy. Joey controls Holzken momentarily but Holzken frees himself. Holzken thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Joey is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Joey wants to sweep but no luck. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Joey working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Holzken doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Joey is tightening it up a little... Holzken has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Holzken reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Holzken taps out! Nice BJJ there by Joey!
