Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Martins Verdins (ranked 3799 p4p, 4475 weight class) and Choto Kanabe (ranked 128 p4p, 149 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Martins Verdins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Choto Kanabe!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Verdins displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.

Kanabe darts in and clinches Verdins up against the cage.
Kanabe will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Verdins up against the cage.
Verdins could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Verdins can't find room to land a body shot as Kanabe controls the action.

Kanabe keeps control of Verdins as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Kanabe has Verdins pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Verdins manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Verdins jumps guard but Kanabe stands there with Verdins around his waist. Verdins gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Kanabe doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Verdins is pressed up against the cage. Kanabe has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Verdins down to the mat. Verdins avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Kanabe is pressed up against the cage. Verdins has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Kanabe down to the mat. Kanabe avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

A nice left hand lands by Kanabe.
Kanabe is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Verdins is defending well.
Martins Verdins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Choto Kanabe.
Kanabe has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Verdins after a bit of a struggle.
Kanabe keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Verdins's efforts to push away.
Kanabe pushes Verdins back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Verdins wants to break the clinch but can't.

Kanabe creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Verdins's defenses.
Kanabe lands a left hand that snaps the head of Verdins backwards.

Verdins can't get the takedown.
Verdins is trying to pull guard but Kanabe turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Kanabe tries to score a body lock takedown but Verdins shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Kanabe has Verdins pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Kanabe pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Verdins tumbling to the mat - Kanabe dives into Verdins's guard.

Kanabe must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Verdins looking to control.
Kanabe is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kanabe closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Verdins is looking to take this one to the mat.
Verdins tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Kanabe smiles and moves away.
No luck for Verdins with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Martins Verdins. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Verdins shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kanabe sprawls well. Kanabe wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Verdins gets slowly back to his feet.

Verdins wants to break free but Kanabe has control.

Kanabe has Verdins pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Kanabe pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Verdins tumbling to the mat - Kanabe dives into Verdins's guard.

Verdins is looking to cinch up a triangle. Kanabe throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Verdins's body to avoid the submission. Verdins has instead reached around Kanabe's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Verdins arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Martins Verdins!
