PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Xin Chan (ranked 24725 p4p, 3989 weight class) and Rexob Boxer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rexob Boxer has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Xin Chan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rexob Boxer!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Colin Fray and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boxer defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Chan.

Chan shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Chan showed some decent athleticism there.
Chan is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Chan working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Boxer is looking for a sweep. Chan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Chan is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Chan will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Boxer is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Chan content to control rather than advance.
Chan tries to pass the half guard into mount. Boxer knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Chan passes to full mount!
Chan sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boxer wants to control but Chan is having none of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chan seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Boxer for as long as he can get away with.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Chan has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Boxer is looking to get to half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Chan content just to control the position here.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Xin Chan dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Chan closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Boxer to the mat! Boxer manages to get full guard.
Chan passes Boxer's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Chan tries to pass to full mount but Boxer defends it.
Chan takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Boxer wants to get back to full guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Chan in particular looking to stall.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Chan.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chan continues to stall.
Chan is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Boxer can do to turn this around?

That's one minute gone in the round.
It looks like Chan is going to stand back up.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Chan shoots in but no luck this time.
Boxer tries to counter with a clinch but Chan shakes him off and moves away.
Chan shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Boxer counters with a nice uppercut.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Chan is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Boxer's half guard.

Boxer has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Chan is on him like a limpet, forcing Boxer back against the cage.
Boxer lands a damaging elbow.
Our sources have told us that Chan has been working on his knees in the buildup to the fight.
Chan avoiding damage as Boxer throws knees to the body.
Boxer scores with a nice hook to the head.
Boxer taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Boxer landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Boxer wants a takedown.
Boxer is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Chan is keeping busy.

Chan working hard to break the clinch.
Chan is pressed up against the cage. Boxer has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Chan down to the mat. Chan avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Boxer gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Chan to score an easy takedown into full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Boxer is trying to keep Chan in close.
Chan stays in close to Boxer's body and controls the position.
Chan advances position into side control!
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Boxer takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Chan is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Xin Chan will probably get the nod.
That's time! Chan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Chan dives in and grabs Boxer's left leg, looking for a takedown. Boxer pushes down on Chan's head and hops out.

Chan throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Boxer tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Chan is in Boxer's guard.
Chan is stalling in the full guard.
Chan slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Boxer trying to remain calm as Chan controls from the top position.
Xin Chan is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boxer tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Chan wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Chan takes a little break here. Boxer wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Chan misses with a straight right.
Chan shoots in looking for a takedown but Boxer manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Chan's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Boxer let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.

Chan closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Boxer quickly recovers to half guard.

Chan wants to pass to mount but Boxer is defending the position.
Chan is working hard here to advance position.
Chan controlling the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Xin Chan showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Chan, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
