PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gustav Graves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Michaels (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Michaels has chosen MC Hammer - Hammer Time as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Stewart Dunkirk and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Graves fails to land the takedown.
No joy there for Graves, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Graves throws a right hand that Michaels ducks under and follows up with a left that Michaels also avoids with ease.

Michaels drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Michaels is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Graves is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Michaels connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Graves some visible discomfort.


It looks like Gustav Graves has been cut.
Michaels wants to lay and pray for a moment but Graves keeps working.
Graves takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Graves had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Michaels is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Graves Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Michaels's back instead.

Michaels is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Graves gets his way!

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Michaels connects with a nice short shot to Graves's temple.
