Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Millard Masters! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Apollo Turner! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Winston Alpacca and David Hoff.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Turner dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Masters. That did some damage! An inside leg kick lands from Turner. A chopping leg kick lands by Turner. A right-left combo lands from Turner. Turner moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Apollo Turner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Turner feints a jab promting Masters to slip. Turner then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Masters slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. Sloppy strikes from Turner. Those never looked like landing. Masters drops down looking for a counter takedown but Turner sprawls and moves away. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Turner!
We've been hearing reports that Masters has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Turner rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Masters moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Turner scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. Turner misses with a combination
and Masters decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Turner's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Masters throws a big elbow that misses. Masters looking to pass the guard. Masters pushing down on Turner's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Masters looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Masters seems to be working for a kimura but Turner defends the submission attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Masters has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Turner defend it? Masters steps over the head and cranks it - Turner is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Masters!
