PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tevin Felix (ranked 658 p4p, 334 weight class) and Long Hung Dong (ranked 111 p4p, 53 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tevin Felix!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Long Hung Dong!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Felix looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Felix checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Felix attempts a counter takedown but Dong avoids it well and moves away.
Nice defenses there by Dong.
Felix backing away here, and Dong unleashes a leg kick that just misses.
Felix swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Dong tries to move into range but Felix moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Felix dives in and grabs Dong's left leg, looking for a takedown. Dong pushes down on Felix's head and hops out.
A little jabbing left from Dong on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Felix fails with the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tevin Felix. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dong tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Felix is able to avoid easily.
Felix misses with a takedown attempt - Dong sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
And Dong responds with a good body kick, but Felix manages to step out the way in time.
Felix darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

Dong throws a low kick but it's checked well by Felix.

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Dong! But no joy.

Felix shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Felix is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Dong has managed to free his arm - good work.

Felix is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Dong holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Felix is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Dong defends it well.

Felix is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Dong sees it coming and defends easily.

Dong is not content to let Felix control the position.
Felix perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Felix is thwarting Dong's attempts to control the position.
Felix is trying to control the action in half guard but Dong is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Felix moves into full mount! Dong won't be happy about that!

Felix goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Dong is on top in guard.

Felix is looking for a triangle but Dong pushes his legs off easily.

Felix working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dong doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dong manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Felix has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Dong is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Felix.

Dong is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Felix moves out of range of the body kick from Dong.
Felix appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Dong tries to score with a low kick but Felix moves his leg out of the way.

and Dong counters with a nice body kick.

Felix throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Felix shoots in for a takedown but Dong shows good takedown defense.

Felix is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Dong is just riding it out for now. Felix eventually gives up the hold.

The fighters are battling for position here. Dong manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Felix loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Felix wants to control from the top but Dong keeps moving.

Felix drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Dong dives on top into guard.

We've been hearing good reports from Felix's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Felix might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Felix is looking for a sweep. Dong is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Long Hung Dong showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Felix fails with an attempt to clinch.
Felix needs to keep his hands up - Dong had a free shot at his head there.

It looks like Tevin Felix has been cut.

Dong is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Felix with a body shot.
Felix throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Dong's waist but Dong gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Felix off to one side.
And Dong responds with a good body kick, but Felix manages to step out the way in time.

Felix shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Dong as he jumps to the side.
Dong replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Felix blocks it well.

Dong does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Felix shoots in and bounces Dong off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Dong keeping moving, preventing Felix from controlling successfully.

Felix is really struggling to control Dong but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Felix pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Dong is keeping the position for now.

Felix drops back, looking for a kneebar! Dong looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Dong looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Dong!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Felix tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Felix seems a little lost for a moment, as Dong dominates the positioning.

Felix is trying to control Dong's posture but Dong avoids it.
Dong moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Felix is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Felix takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Felix misses with a left hand
and Dong counters with a nice low kick that buckles Felix's knee momentarily.
Dong jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Felix tries for a takedown but Dong sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Jab, jab by Dong - just one landing.
Felix shoots and misses
and Dong counters with a nice kick to the body.

And that's the end of the fight!
Long Hung Dong comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Dong has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
