PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Shepherd Bushiri (ranked 16313 p4p, 1675 weight class) and Elroy Clarks (ranked 324 p4p, 94 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Shepherd Bushiri!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Elroy Clarks!
The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Skip Squint and Ben Hemmingworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Bushiri.
And Clarks responds with a good body kick, but Bushiri manages to step out the way in time.
Bushiri tries to clinch up but Clarks circles away and keeps his distance.

Bushiri rushes Clarks and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Clarks scores with a nice hook to the head.

Bushiri has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Bushiri breaks the clinch.
Clarks throws out a leg kick but Bushiri moves out of range and Clarks only half commits.

Bushiri tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Clarks defends well and Bushiri ends up having to push Clarks into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Clarks has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Clarks creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Bushiri tries to pull guard but Clarks holds him up against the cage and eventually Bushiri drops back down to his feet.
Bushiri has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Clarks after a bit of a struggle.

Bushiri uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Clarks.

Bushiri bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Bushiri looks up at the clock and then as Clarks takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Bushiri smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Clarks can't do much from the bottom here.

Bushiri tries to stand and escape but Clarks is controlling the position.

Clarks felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Elroy Clarks showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well Clarks has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
