Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Junior Batina! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mickey McGinn! The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Batina shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with McGinn but McGinn pushes him off and we're back to square one. McGinn looks to land a combination but Batina avoids it well. McGinn throws a right and a left that Batina avoids nicely. A punch combination from McGinn misses. McGinn throws a nice looking combination but Batina bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Mickey McGinn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. McGinn misses with a wild combination.
McGinn looks gassed! McGinn throws a nice looking combination but Batina bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Batina staying out of range there. A combination from Batina does no damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Batina fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. McGinn throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Batina counters with a nice double leg into side control. McGinn won't be happy with that. Batina prevents McGinn from escaping the position. Batina tries for a kimura but McGinn is defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. McGinn tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops. Batina is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
McGinn controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position. Batina working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! McGinn tries to break free.
McGinn is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Batina off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted. Batina looking for the choke but no joy. McGinn controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Batina tightening his grip on McGinn, looking for the choke. McGinn wants to control his opponent's hands but Batina gets his hands free. Even with his hooks in, Batina manages to miss with strikes from the back. McGinn wants to get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McGinn fending off the submission attempt from Batina. McGinn trying to get back to his feet but Batina is in full control for now. McGinn is looking to stand back up. He's having to work hard to escape but eventually he manages it. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. McGinn swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Batina counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Batina. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Junior Batina dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Batina closes this distance looking for a takedown but McGinn circles away. A cross from McGinn lands. McGinn misses with a double jab
and Batina counters with a nice double leg into side control. McGinn won't be happy with that. Batina is trying to get an arm triangle but McGinn is defending well. McGinn really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Batina. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. McGinn can't do much from the bottom here. Batina throwing shots but missing, from side control. McGinn wants to get back to his feet but Batina drags him back down. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. McGinn is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. McGinn is wriggling around trying to escape but Batina has hooked up a rear naked choke! Is it over??? Is it... you're damn right it is! McGinn taps out and Batina picks up the big win! Great work there by Batina!
