Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Derrick Stevens (ranked 3886 p4p, 3380 weight class) and Zac Head (ranked 497 p4p, 438 weight class). Zac Head is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Derrick Stevens! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Zac Head! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Seu Braga and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stevens stuffs the takedown attempt from Head. Head gets slowly back to his feet. Head goes for a double leg but Stevens avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Stevens continues to drive forward. Head closes the distance and pushes Stevens back into the cage. Head stalling in the clinch.
Stevens is trying to break the clinch but Head is controlling him. Stevens lands a right hand. Stevens is trying to push Head away but Head has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Head is trying to pull guard but Stevens turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Derrick Stevens has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Zac Head. Stevens is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Stevens pulls guard successfully.
Head gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Head fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Stevens avoids it really well and circles away. As Head looks to move away, Stevens throws a big counter combo but Head just gets out of the way.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stevens shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Head as he avoids it easily. Stevens fails with a takedown attempt. Head is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own. Head shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Stevens defends it nicely. Stevens throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Head's waist but Head gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Stevens off to one side. Head tries to counter with a clinch but Stevens shakes him off and moves away. Stevens throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Stevens with a lazy takedown attempt and Head counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Stevens fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Stevens has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Head avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Head's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Head moves into the clinch. Stevens tries a knee to the head but Head blocks it.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Head keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Head stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. Stevens connects with a jab. Head just misses with a punch to the body.
Stevens moves in looking to clinch but Head pushes him off. Stevens fails with a takedown attempt. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Head shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Stevens but Stevens pushes him off and we're back to square one. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Derrick Stevens will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Stevens shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Head counters with a leg kick. Head tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. This has been an exciting period of action! No luck with that takedown attempt from Stevens. Head misses with a head kick.
Stevens is looking to counter the offense by Head and move into the clinch. Head shoots in for a double leg but Stevens sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. A combination from Head does no damage. Head throws a looping overhand right but Stevens ducks down to avoid it. Stevens is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Zac Head seems to be getting the better of the standup. Stevens misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Head shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Stevens sprawls well. Stevens wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Head gets slowly back to his feet. Head shoots in but Stevens avoids the takedown attempt easily. Stevens shoots in looking for a takedown but Head manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Stevens's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Head shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Stevens as he avoids it easily. Stevens shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Head as he avoids it easily. Stevens lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Stevens shoots in for a takedown but Head shows good takedown defense. Stevens connects with an inside leg kick. Stevens shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Head as he jumps to the side.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Stevens will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Zac Head showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round! Stevens fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Head has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Stevens misses with a double jab
and Head counters by clinching up. Stevens tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Head just stands there and leans against the cage. Good anti-grappling being displayed by Head as Stevens tries to tie him up. Head tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Head breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Stevens is defended easily by Head. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Head tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Stevens paws at him with a jab and circles away. Head closes this distance looking for a takedown but Stevens circles away.

Head has his takedown stuffed and Stevens counters with a three punch combo that has Head backing up. Head nods at Stevens to acknowledge the strikes. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Head shoots in for a double leg but Stevens sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. It looked like Stevens wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Head fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Stevens is looking for a counter combo. Stevens blocks a head kick by Head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Stevens fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Head. Stevens tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Head swivels and escapes. Head tries to counter by closing the distance. Stevens takes a swing at Head's ribcage but misses. Stevens closes this distance looking for a takedown but Head circles away. Head looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Stevens dives in and grabs Head's left leg, looking for a takedown. Head pushes down on Stevens's head and hops out. Stevens dodges the punch combination from Head.
Stevens shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Head sprawls well. Head wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Stevens gets slowly back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Head moves into range and clinches up with Stevens. Head wants a takedown.
Stevens wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Head lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Stevens. Stevens content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Head tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Head jumps guard but Stevens turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Head takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. Stevens wants to get back to striking at distance but Head won't allow it.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Zac Head. I think Head has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
