Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kaelan Markum (ranked 5117 p4p, 5478 weight class) and Joshua Alex (ranked 515 p4p, 536 weight class). This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kaelan Markum ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Joshua Alex! The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, James Glass and Daniel Bishop.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Markum drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Markum in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Markum is looking to work some ground and pound but Alex has wrist control. Alex preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Markum won't allow Alex to get back to his feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Markum not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Alex keeping moving, preventing Markum from controlling successfully. Markum won't allow Alex to get back to his feet. Markum decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Alex, up you get! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Alex fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Joshua Alex seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Markum scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Alex bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Markum shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Markum showed some decent athleticism there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Markum is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Alex sees it coming and defends easily. Alex is not content to let Markum control the position. Markum is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Alex is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Kaelan Markum dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Sloppy strikes from Alex. Those never looked like landing. Markum slips a jab and a cross from Alex.
Alex dives in and grabs Markum 's left leg, looking for a takedown. Markum pushes down on Alex's head and hops out. Markum appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick. Alex misses with a wild combination.

Alex looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Alex works over Markum 's head and body with a nice combination. Alex shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Markum as he avoids it easily. Markum attempts a counter takedown but Alex avoids it well and moves away. No joy there for Alex, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
As Alex looks to move away, Markum throws a big counter combo but Alex just gets out of the way. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Markum slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Alex is breathing heavily. Markum stands up from Alex's guard - Markum perhaps looking for a knockout. Kaelan Markum is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Markum swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Markum is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Alex's half guard. Markum in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Alex tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Markum !
