PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tie Domi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ken Severn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Severn comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Pride FC Theme kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Ken Severn is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tie Domi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ken Severn!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yuuki Gou and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Severn thows a body shot but no joy.
Domi's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Domi duly obliges.
Domi throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Severn's waist but Severn gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Domi off to one side.
Severn will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and Domi counters with a nice double leg into side control. Severn won't be happy with that.
Severn tries to improve position but can't.
Domi trying to control the action but Severn is working from the bottom.
Severn gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Severn is trying to stand.
Domi is keen to just control but Severn is a slippery customer.
Severn tries to kick Domi off but Domi keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Severn wants to control but Domi is keeping busy.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Domi's corner calls for a 1-2. Domi obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Severn misses with a few strikes there.
Domi doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Domi takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Severn looks to land a left hand but Domi moved out of range nicely.
A punch lands to the side of Severn 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Domi shoots for a double leg takedown but Severn sprawls well. He's pushed Domi's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tie Domi. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Severn is looking to stand up but Domi won't let him.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

No joy there for Domi, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Severn throws a body punch but Domi moves out of range.

Severn throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

Domi pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Good exchange - Domi coming out on top.
Severn fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Severn tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Domi was well out of range. Poor timing from Severn.
Domi thows a body shot but no joy.
Domi misses with the combination.
Domi misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Domi swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Severn counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Domi lands a slapping body shot.

Severn is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Severn looking to control but Domi passes into half guard.

Severn kicks Domi off and gets back to his feet.
Severn throws out a loose jab but Domi uses good head movement to avoid it.
Domi scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Domi scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

Domi decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Domi is pressing down on Severn's thigh, looking to free his foot. Severn is holding on for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Severn is trying to maintain the position but Domi is very close to passing his half guard.
Domi blocks the strikes from Severn.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Domi looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Severn gets full guard.
Domi advances to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tie Domi will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Domi seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Severn is staying active underneath Domi, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Domi trying to control the action but Severn is working from the bottom.
Severn looking for a sweep but Domi has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Severn tries to reverse the position but Domi maintains control.
Domi scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Domi controlling the pace for now.
Severn sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Domi wants to lay and pray for a moment but Severn keeps working.
Domi looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Severn with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Severn is looking to control Domi's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Severn avoid being mounted?

Domi is trying to work for a kimura but Severn is defending well.

Domi is in close to Severn's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Domi working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Severn escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Domi gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Domi is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Severn has his foot on Domi's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Domi works his way back into a safe position though.

Ken Severn showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Severn swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Tie Domi is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Severn throws a jab but it's blocked by Domi.

Ken Severn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Domi uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Severn.
Domi rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Severn moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Domi connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Severn swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Domi misses with the combination.
Severn closes this distance looking for a takedown but Domi circles away.
Ken Severn seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Severn takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Domi comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Domi shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Severn but Severn pushes him off and we're back to square one.

and Severn counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Domi thinking.
Domi shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Severn but Severn pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Domi takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Severn is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Severn is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Severn wants to control but Domi is having none of it.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Severn is in a horrible position here. Domi smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Tie Domi showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Domi has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
