CACC 189: Pripyat vs Morgan PBP Commentary |
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the featherweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of London, with a TWGC record of 18 wins and 8 losses; Able Archer! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 2 losses; Eddy Gordo! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Joseph Jones and Eddie Farnsworth.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Gordo darts in and clinches Archer up against the ropes. Archer definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Archer gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Gordo.
Archer is pressed up against the ropes. Gordo has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Archer down to the mat. Archer avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Archer clinches with his opponent.

Able Archer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eddy Gordo. Gordo is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Archer is defending well. Archer goes for a takedown in the clinch but Gordo prevents it.
Archer is fighting off a takedown attempt but Gordo is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Archer to the mat. Archer regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Archer (0) vs (2) Gordo The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Gordo has gone for a leg lock! Archer slips out almost immediately though and dives into Gordo's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Archer (2) vs (2) Gordo We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Archer is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Archer sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Gordo's guard. Archer sitting and controlling from the half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gordo trying to hold on to Archer's head to control him but Archer postures up.
Archer not doing much here.
Gordo gets back to full guard.
Gordo isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Archer stacks Gordo on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Archer! Score +3 for passing guard: Archer (5) vs (2) Gordo Archer controlling from side mount. Archer wants to control for a moment but Gordo uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Archer uses his free foot to push down on Gordo's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Gordo. Score +3 for passing guard: Archer (8) vs (2) Gordo Archer is trying to take his opponent's back.
Archer wants to control the pace but Gordo is squirming around nicely. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Gordo bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Archer (8) vs (4) Gordo Gordo sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Archer doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Gordo paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Archer - great work!
