Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Niko a (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lee Merchant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Merchant has chosen DMX - Intro as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of

2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Lee Merchant! The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yuuki Gou and Shirou Masuda.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! a looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. a thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. a not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Merchant trying to hold on to a's head to control him but a postures up.

Merchant tries to get to full guard but a has control of the leg. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. a tries to pass the half guard into mount. Merchant knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Merchant ducks down and throws a hook to the body but a moves away. a connects with a high kick. Merchant misses with a hook.
That's one minute gone in the round. Merchant waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract a. Merchant is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by a. a closes the distance and clinches up with Merchant, looking for a takedown. a pushes Merchant against the cage but Merchant circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. a shoots for a takedown but Merchant saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Merchant throws a combination but it was largely blocked by a. Nice defenses there by a. Merchant misses with an uppercut. a saw that one coming. a scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. a is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Merchant has escaped the position, nice work there. Merchant really doesn't want to stay on the ground with a. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Merchant is looking for a sweep. Merchant wants to control but a postures up. Merchant tries to buck a off but a is having none of it. a in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. a tries to advance to mount but can't. a is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Merchant is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. a slips under a jab from Merchant. a wants to clinch. Merchant cracks a with a right hand to the side of the head. Merchant lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
It looks like Niko a has been cut. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. a ducks straight into an uppercut from Merchant and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - a maanges to regain guard straight away.
a is rocked! Merchant is in close to a's body, working some short punches and elbows. Oh a is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Merchant is stalling in the full guard. a seems to have got his legs back now. Merchant loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Merchant seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Merchant must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Merchant's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Let's hope that Merchant has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. a can't keep his opponent in guard - Merchant advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Merchant wants to pass the guard but a is defending well. Merchant controlling the action here. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Despite being in the dominant position, Lee Merchant just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up. a drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. No joy there for Merchant, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Merchant darts in and out, connecting with a jab. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Lee Merchant dominated that round. The cut man is working on Niko a's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Merchant lands a big head kick that sends a to the canvas! Merchant follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Lee Merchant!
