PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Balink Tarlah (ranked 665 p4p, 961 weight class) and Jacques Chaize (ranked 78 p4p, 127 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Balink Tarlah!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jacques Chaize!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Roger Salmon and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tarlah changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Chaize tries to avoid it but Tarlah manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Chaize to the ground. Chaize escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Chaize has closed the distance and engaged Tarlah in a clinch.

Tarlah gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Chaize seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Tarlah wants to control from the top but Chaize keeps moving.
Chaize pulls Tarlah in close to his closed guard and prevents Tarlah from doing any damage or advancing position.
Tarlah won't allow Chaize to sweep him here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chaize seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Tarlah makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Tarlah connects with a couple of short punches.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Chaize is on top in guard.

Chaize looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Chaize stays in close to Tarlah's body and controls the position.
Tarlah definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Tarlah looking to hit a scissor sweep but Chaize is one step ahead there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Tarlah is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Tarlah wants to sweep here but Chaize controlling him for the moment.
Chaize seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Chaize lands a nice hook to Tarlah's body. Tarlah takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Tarlah uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Chaize.
Tarlah keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Tarlah avoids the body shot from Chaize.

Chaize lands the left hand.

Chaize gets a clinch.
Tarlah wants a takedown.
Tarlah is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Chaize gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Tarlah drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Chaize gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Chaize's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Chaize's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Chaize throws out a loose jab but Tarlah uses good head movement to avoid it.
Tarlah shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Chaize sprawls well. Chaize wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Tarlah gets slowly back to his feet.
Chaize uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Tarlah is standing up over Chaize. Chaize looks to escape but Tarlah dives into side control.

Tarlah scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Chaize to see if he's OK.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chaize takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Tarlah grinds an elbow into Chaize's temple.
Chaize is working to avoid the ground and pound but Tarlah connects with a decent elbow.
Chaize manages to work his way to half guard, despite Tarlah's best efforts.
Chaize tries to roll over but Tarlah keeps him under control.
Tarlah is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Tarlah seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Chaize does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Tarlah stops Chaize from getting back to his feet.
Tarlah scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Tarlah seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Tarlah is trying to control the action in half guard but Chaize is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Chaize kicks Tarlah off and gets back to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Tarlah fails with a takedown attempt.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Tarlah.
As Tarlah backs off Chaize throws a huge counter combo but Tarlah manages to avoid it all.

Tarlah shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Chaize misses with a straight left.
A looping hook to the body misses from Chaize. Tarlah does a little dance to reset his feet.
Chaize lands with a right hand.
Chaize just misses with a punch to the body.
Chaize keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Tarlah.

Tarlah throws a right and a left that both miss.
Tarlah fails to land the takedown.
Jacques Chaize seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Chaize cracks Tarlah with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
The fighters circle momentarily. Chaize darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Chaize misses with an uppercut. Tarlah saw that one coming.
Tarlah takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jacques Chaize showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Tarlah wants to take the fight to the mat but Chaize manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Oh Tarlah is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Chaize lands a left hand.
Chaize gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Tarlah.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Chaize has the Thai clinch. He lands a big knee to the head that stumbles Tarlah - he's in trouble! Another big knee to the head from Chaize, and another! Tarlah is out on his feet - the ref jumps in to save him and ends the fight!
