Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Scott Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oscar Hernandez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith's entrance music is YOUR GOING DOWN. A fine choice. Hernandez has chosen Cocteau Twins - Song to the Siren as his entrance music. Oscar Hernandez told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Scott Smith! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Oscar Hernandez! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Steve Montenegro and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smith scores with a takedown into Hernandez's guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Smith accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Hernandez trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. Smith throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Hernandez is looking to stand up but Smith isn't so interested in that idea. Smith postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Hernandez trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Smith working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Smith tries to free his leg and advance position but Hernandez is retaining full guard.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Hernandez tries for a takedown but Smith sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Hernandez takes the fight into the clinch. A knee to the head by Smith.
It looks like Oscar Hernandez has been cut. Hernandez is looking to break free of the clinch but Smith has double underhooks. Smith wants a takedown but no success here.

Smith is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hernandez has gone for a leg lock! Smith slips out almost immediately though and dives into Hernandez's guard. Smith with a nice head shot there. Smith is working Hernandez over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Hernandez wants to control but Smith passes easily into half guard.
Hernandez gets full guard. Smith thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Smith is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith won't allow Hernandez to sweep him here. Hernandez wants to stand but Smith is controlling the position. Hernandez is looking for a triangle but Smith pushes his legs off easily.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Smith looks for a takedown but Hernandez sprawls well. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Scott Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hernandez tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Hernandez prevents Smith from getting the reversal. Smith wants to hold on but Hernandez pushes him away. Smith is working to get back to half guard.
Hernandez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Smith flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Scott Smith will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Oscar Hernandez's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Smith is squirming around, avoiding Hernandez's attempts to control the action. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Scott Smith will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Oscar Hernandez's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

That's going to take a lot out of him. Hernandez fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Hernandez lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Smith circles away quickly and effectively. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Smith tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hernandez swivels and escapes. Smith changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Hernandez fights it off and pushes away nicely.

And that's the end of the fight! Oscar Hernandez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Smith has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
